Rocker panel & door damage, help!

Recommended Posts

I was driving through a curve while looking at a bear out my driver side window at 5 mph. The road apparently straighten out but I didn’t.   I drove 2 feet off the road and drove up onto an approximately 2 foot tall boulder.... There was a smaller rock directly in front of it to guide my tire up onto it.   I immediately felt my front end lifting up and I turned toward the right while applying my brakes. My truck came off the boulder and I “high centered” it on my driver side rocker panel and driver side door.  :sigh:

Anyone have experience taking this in for repairs through insurance?  The rocker panel is part of the 1 piece cab. Will they need to replace the whole cab, or are there parts they can weld in? What is the damage $? I plan on taking it to my dealership as they have a body shop.  I guess I am afraid it may be totaled if it requires a whole cab replacement...

I saw your pic in the other thread. They will likely cut out that section and scab in a new piece. They'll also probably put it on a frame machine to make sure everything is straight...

Awesome, Thanks for the response.  I'd hate for them to total it.  I'd be surprised if the frame is bent, but I guess weirder things have happened...

It's more to make sure all the body panels and their repairs are straight.

I'm leaning towards taking it my Chevy dealer in Fairfield, CA.  If anyone has another suggestion for a local place they have dealt with I'd love any suggestions.  I want it done RIGHT, even if it costs me more out of pocket.

There is no reason to check the truck on a frame alignment rack, unless there is more pictures of damage. These are body over frame. So that cab is fine. Only spot that matters is door closes right and the gap looks factory. This is a easy fix. It is not going to be a complete rocker and door replacement it is a pull and paint.

Oh now I see 2nd pic. That is a close call. I still lean on spot fix that metal replacement is the whole length of the 2 doors. It is a ton of work as a whole but a cut and patch weld ing or pull and fill will work at a lower price.

I still think they put it on the frame machine to check their work and make sure the body panels are straight. Some dick hit and run my old truck back in January and it curled in my rear bed side. They put it on the frame machine after they pulled it to make sure the panel was straight. Nothing to do with a bent frame. Just making sure their work is as prefect as they can possibly get it...ffe5defcc8cdd0c35817d0d6c49f7ff7.jpg321027e6792c54465b8c95d26b8f6e8a.jpg

It'll be alright man. They can fix that.

A ton of cars on the road are unibody, do you think they just total those anytime there's a dent on the body? No.

They'll cut that out and weld in a new piece, it will be good as new and you'll never think about it ever again. It's a cosmetic problem.

Shit happens. File a claim, tell them what happened, life goes on. Don't beat yourself up. I've done dumb shit too and looked back afterward and thought "How the hell could I have been so dumb?" It happens to everybody. It could happen again tomorrow!

Not a problem, man. These are small things in life, there are greater challenges than a dent in your truck, let me tell you what. This is an easy thing, you'll pay your deductible and it'll be alright. The truck isn't that bad, it's your pride that hurts.

A few weeks ago, someone posted about curbing their 20" GMC snowflake wheels and they had about a 3" scratched area on the rim and were beside themselves over it. It's just a truck, it can be fixed or replaced. You yourself, not so easily. No one got hurt and you're here to tell us the story. It's gonna be ok.

I'm guessing you don't have children. [emoji23]
