Can’t decide 1500 AT4 or 2500 AT4.....thoughts??

Recommended Posts

Currently own a 13 Silverado 2500 and wanting to get an AT4. Looked at a standard bed crew cab 1500 and it was nice. Can’t decide to go ahead and get that or what for the 2500 AT4 gas. Any thoughts from anyone that has gone from a 2500 to the new AT4 or TB??

Yeah, really depends on what you tow or haul and how regularly. If what you do is within the capabilities of the half ton, and it’s more often than not a grocery getter...I think the 1500 is the obvious choice. Better ride, better economy, faster (especially with the 6.2), smaller & easier to park, etc.

It’s my daily driver. Tow a 20ft trailer with my lawn mowers 2-3 days a week and occasionally a 22ft ski boat. Probably don’t need the extra payload. Just used to the bigger truck. Guess I’ll see what the dealer will do for a deal on the 2019 1500

Just compare deals.  Many times I have seen 2500's all decked out sell for the same or less than a decked out 1500.  It is all about the market.  But do a comparison of trucks with similar options and such.   I have never seen a time when a 2500 didn't win in the best bang for the buck arena.    It is always best to have a little more truck than you think you need then wish later you did.

A couple of considerations.... the 2500 6.0 and the new for 2020  the 6.6 gas, neither have the  stupid AFM cylinder shutdown nonsense that causes many people grief.  And unlike the 6.2 in the 1500, neither calls for premium fuel to optimize engine performance.  The 6.0 is just about the most rock solid engine that GM has in the stable. It is going into some other medium trucks like a couple from Fuso.    6.6 hasn't come out yet, so the jury is still out if it will be as reliable.      If one airs the tires based on the load and not the OEM door sticker (you can get a load / pressure chart for your tires from the folks who make them), the ride is substantially better.  I also ditched the stock Rancho shocks for a set of Bilstein 4600's and it made whale of an improvement in ride.    But I can put about 2500 lb in the back of mine before I even come close to GVWR.
