Line Converter Performance?

Recommended Posts

Is there a major difference in performance between preamp outs and a line converter.

I currently have a hu with preamp outs and want to put the factory back in. Will I notice a difference? I have the factory speakers with an amp bridged going to 2 subs.

Thanks!

I would consider putting a factory deck in place of a decent aftermarket deck a step backwards. There must be a reason that you'd want to put the factory deck back in, because it's not for sound quality. I've only used LOCs on 2 occasions and wasn't very impressed with the results. I helped a buddy install one in his Bonneville to run a sub. After we installed the LOC he found the harness for his amp that accepted speaker level inputs. The LOC built in to the amp sounded better than the Scosche unit that we had hooked up. I have another buddy that just used a LOC to add subs to his '03 Silverado. Both of us agreed that the subs didn't sound as tight as they should. The LOC seemed to muddy the sound. My friend was so disappointed with the sound quality that he's completely replacing the factory system now. This wasn't entirely based on the LOC, but just how the whole system sounded after the subs were added.

Here is my system (02 ex cab Z71):

2 10" Kicker Comp V/R subs (down firing, under rear seat)

MB Quart components in the front doors

Infiniti plates in the rear doors

Fosgate 500 for the mids and highs

Fosgate 700 for the subs

Factory head unit.

It sounds awesome. No disapointmets here. I used the LOCs even though my amp takes inputs directly from speaker wires....I think I did this because I had them laying around. I didn't try it without the LOCs, so I couldn't tell you if there is a difference.

My 92 has a complete system, including aftermarket HU. The 02 blows it away in clarity, and volume.

Just my .02
