Shifter won't shift when the interlock and transmission cables are removed.

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I need some help here please. 07 GMC Yukon was towed and placed in a lot. When they attempted to return it to me, the key would not rotate. To attempt to fast forward, I was able to get the lock to rotate and start the car. The shifter would move out of park to reverse only. It would not move farther than that. There was evidence of someone messing with it. Fast forward- I disconnected the interlock cable and the trans cable from the shifter mechanism. I was able to drive by manually moving the trans cable. The shifter is still locked. The cable that snaps into the key assembly has a broken tab and will not stay connected. If I try to move the cable, I can't. The steering wheel locking mechanism is also broken and won't lock. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Larry
