My HydroSilex Experience - Ongoing - Complete!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. No - I am not getting paid for any of this!!

If anyone is interested, I decided to give this Hydrosilex "ceramic coating"  a try.  I kept seeing it on my Facebook and was talking with my dad about it.  My parents ended up surprising me and getting it for my birthday, so I had no choice but to try it out!

I've made a series of YouTube videos documenting the entire process from prepping the paint to actually using Hydrosilex.  I'm really curious to it's durability, so, I took no shortcuts when prepping the paint.

You can find the videos here:

My impressions so far with the product is that it applies very easily.  Very effortless application.  I've put on two coats so far (5 days part) and will be doing a 3rd coat this weekend (6 days apart from second coat) as their website recommends up to 3 coats for what I assume is getting maximum durability.

Driving to work the other day, I got caught in a pretty nasty rainfall, roads were literally getting flooded in spots it was coming down so hard.  Looked at my truck later in the day in the sun, I was really surprised to see how clean it still looked!  This Hydrosilex definitely has better self cleaning abilities than the Meguiars Synthetic Xpress Spray wax I was using (professional line).

Make sure to check back in if your interested in hearing about the durability updates.  After this weekend, I won't be applying any more coats until I notice it starting to have some significant failure.  I'll be updating each time I was the truck which is usually once a week or every other week.

UPDATE 2019/06/30

Well guys, 30 days later from initial application, 25 days from the 2nd application and there is much more sheeting than beading going on.  Not overly impressed with this product.  I did drive in the rain several times, none of which was on the highway.  Truck is garage kept and parked in parking structure out of the elements at work.

Will not purchase it again.  Was fun to try the product, sure was easy to use!

See video for full review.

Yes.  Per their FAQ on their website, you should apply 2-3 layers 5-7 days apart for each layer for maximum durability.

This makes no sense as youd be trapping contaminants under each coat

Yea, I agree.  I'm just going along with what they're saying.  I think I'm deciding not to do the third coat, especially now since I'm coming up on 2 weeks.  I'm just going to wash it and then do another review on how it is holding up so far.  I'll use the rest up once I notice the coating starting to fail.  Just got home from driving in the rain.  Water still beading on all the lower panels.  This is the fourth rain I've driven in.

After watching the video, my guess is that most of it is washed off by now. Most likely that stuff is just like any other spray wax. If you want beading get it ceramic coated. There is no cheap substitute for the real thing. This pic was taken about 2 hours after it quit raining this morning.

Beading looks great.  Yea I 100% agree with you on that.  I was just so curious to try one of these spray on "ceramic" SiO2 coatings to see if they lasted any longer than traditional Waxes/Sealants.

I'm actually going to try out Turtle Wax Seal n Shine LOL I am seeing a lot of positive feedback and for less than 10$ for bottle I'd have no issue giving it a try.

As fall approaches I may try Gyeon CanCoat or WetCoat, I forget which, supposedly supposed to be good for 6-8 months and relatively easy to apply.  Just would like something that can help get me all the way through winter.
