Stabilitrak light and similar issues

Recommended Posts

I bought my 2014 Silverado last July when I came back from Afghanistan. Truck was fine. Every now and then when I’d hit a pot hole or back up in tight spots my stabilitrak light would come on. And when I would back up it felt as tough my power steering was out. Fast forward to March 2019 and the problem got worse. I would be driving and the stabilitrak light would come on, truck shuts off and then comes right back on. Yeah. It literally shuts off by itself and then cuts right back on by itself. I did my research and I replaced the steering angle sensor. It fixed the problem. Now the past few weeks the problem came back. My wife and I drove to NC and the truck did the same thing. It cut off 12 times that day. It didn’t matter how slow or fast I was going it still would shut off and cut back on. Last weekend I stopped at a gas station and then the truck didn’t even start. No lights came on when I opened the door and nothing when I turned the key. It’s in the shop now and they don’t even know what the problem is. Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

Welcome to the site, and thank you very much for your service.

Battery, cables, ground points, are the best place to start.

These trucks do not like any weak links in the electrical system.

Have they checked to see if any codes are present?

Thanks everyone who replied! Also I’m sorry it’s taken so long to reply as I have been busy plying Army. Update...after the week being in the shop it he ran like a champ. The guy cleared 17 codes (which I can post later) and then the problem never came back. I also gave him my spare key (like any reasonable person would do). He drove it all week for very long distances and nothing. So I go to pick up my baby and we started talking about what it could be. Then he asked what key I gave him. I told him the spare and it all kinda clicked. He said some times the chips in the keys would start to go out and would mess with the ignition. Hence all of my problems at random ha. So since then I’ve driven it with the spare key and no problem at all! Hope this may help people in the long run.
