Recommended Posts

I have had my truck for 2 oil changes the first time is when the dealer did it before i bnought it and then i did it and ran penzoil 5w30 is that good oil ... i have been searching through the forums and it seems llike noone uses this stuff

its either that purple stuff gtx and amsoil, mobile 1

what i was told when i had my old truck is that mobile one and penzoil is the same .. .so what is the big deal in price difference...

also the people who had my truck what if they ran synthetics after the break in.. and i just put regular penz in it for the oil change you think everuthing will be ok ???

so far it hasnt used any oil and and i am holding a little over 60 pounds of oil pressure going down the road...

am i just over reacting .. ..

i am sorry if i am ... but i am really working for this truck and i want it to last for a long time... say about 5 years for sure cause thats how long it will take me to pay it off

thanx for all the replies

I use 5W-30 Mobil 1. And I just change it whenever the system says so which is around 3-4k miles, even though the oil life monitor was configured for running conventional oil. Corvettes which have factory fill synthetic have their oil life monitor's calibrated to last up to 15k!

There's no worry these days about what to use after break in. You can start using synthetic oil right away if you want, which you should.

Penzoil is good oil. It has a lot of Moly in it. You can go to bobistheoilguy.com and do a search on Penzoil. You can also check out their used oil analysis section of the forum and read up on how all the oils are holding up in all kinds of vehicles for different miles for different individuals. It is a good site.

Mobil 1 and Penzoil are not the same. Mobil 1 is synthetic and Penzoil is just regular oil. They are two different oil companies.

If you stick to 3k oil change intervals with the Penzoil you will be fine. The truck will last a long time. Synthetics are the oils to use if you want to extend your drain intervals longer than 3k. They also have a better flow rate in the colder climates on start up. There can be some mileage increase and lower emissions with synthetics. Like my 02 Silverado, if I drive sensibliy back and forth to work, I'm 20 miles each way, I get 19mpg.

Switching from a synthetic to regular oil will not hurt a thing. Unless you want to and have the extra cash to run synthetics. Running regular Penzoil 5w-30 will surve you well and keep you running well over 150k. Plus you will have the extra cash to spend on other mods for the truck.
