AC Condensation runs over Transmission/Exhaust

Recommended Posts

2019 AT4 Crew Cab (6.2Lt)

The AC condensation somehow makes it down over the transmission and then drips on the crossover pipe of the exhaust below the transmission pan.  I keep hearing the singe sound of the water on the hot exhaust when i pull in the garage.  Anyone else have this issue?  I'm assuming there is a drain tube or hose that might be missing or misdirected.  Any comments/suggestions?

Thanks.

Mine is aimed at the top of the frame rail so I moved it to point almost straight down. I would think if it hit the frame it would bounce off it and some would hit the exhaust but I wouldn't be concerned by it.

I’ve been displeased about the condensation on exhaust over the last several months.  I’ve been to my dealer about it and they say it’s normal.  Tonight I came home and looked to see what I could do.  The condensation water has saturated the heat shield material around the transmission and drips where the trans. cooler lines come in.  One attachment nut is already showing signs of corrosion and the leak leaves that area to drain on the exhaust where the cross over comes together, that gives the nice sizzle sound.  This can’t be what was intended when originally designed. GMC 2020 5.3

Yes the drain for the evaporator is located pretty much above the bell housing on the tranny. That is why it leaks down and follows the cross member and also drips onto the exhaust. It is designed that way. They could have routed it to a different location and it would not do this. I know it is like this on 19' models, not sure if they have changed it on the newer models. Not really a big deal to me.

Wife just happened to notice this a couple days ago and said she heard a sound like an air compressor tank and asked what it was. I never had heard it before nor remembered this thread. Have had this truck since March 2019. Discover something new every day. I came around to her side and shot this quick video. Found this thread, so sharing the video via Vimeo. Will need to turn your sound up. Taken with Pixel 3XL.

Holy crap.. I need to get underneath mine tomorrow.  Is the front half of the exhaust really this squished down?   Seems like a MAJOR flow restriction
