Changed shift column mechanism, now brakes locking up?

Recommended Posts

I don't know much about vehicles, or forums at that. I know enough obviously to have looked up & changed out the shift column mechanism. Now for some reason when Im at slow speeds my brakes are wanting to lock up? Could this have something to do with something not being plugged back in right or? Im lost on this one.

When you say changed shift column mechanism are you talking about a component on the shift column? What's the year, make, model, engine of the vehicle we're discussing? Keep in mind help in forums goes quicker when we know what kind of vehicle you're driving with the details.

Do you have any codes, lights on in the dash display? Does it have traction control? I'd go back and check the wiring connectors and make sure those that were unplugged got plugged back in. Also keep in mind there's wires in the dash area and if one got bumped a little hard or something of that nature that could jar it loose or loosen a connector so it's imperative to check all plugs and make sure there's no wires loose on any of the ones you loosened and those in the area where you were working.

Does it feel like the brakes applying and locking up or possibly the shift column is out of sync depending on what year, make,  model you have.

What promoted the replacement of this component before these new symptoms occurred?

Codes is what needs to be checked as well. Codes may give a direction.

Another thing that came to mind does the ABS motor cycle? This would make a sound of motors energizing by the EBCM such as when wheels lock up on wet, snowy or slippery surfaces. This could be something related to the traction control as well. There's a lot of possibilities but I'm sure someone who sees them (Chevy vehicles with this issue) more than me will probably recognize it right away.

IF you have a code or codes post them here and don't do the parts cannon and throw parts at it as parts houses will gladly sell you them all day long without a proper diagnosis.

One other forum you can join and post in where you have techs on the front lines daily is scannerdanner.com.  Top notch guys there.

Join the forum, post your question according to the Forum rules including the pertinent vehicle information and copy and paste your original post from this forum and you may get a answer pretty darn quick that is probably one or two sentences long compared to mine.

I'm a work in progress but I'm always learning and those guys help me out over there and I help guys out as I can to.

I have a 99 Chevy 1500 ; Not sure if it’s a Silverado or not my grandpa gave it to me and doesn’t say it on the registration. Not having any codes thrown or lights on. I DID have my emergency break on the entire time I was changing the part out because I had to switch from drive ..it’s almost like my parking break is stuck? I tried checking what I knew and didn’t see anything . But if I put in neutral the vehicle doesn’t move ..
