Weird; Truck shut off

Recommended Posts

Had the weirdest thing happen.

Wife and I were pulling into garage my truck just shut off. Everything was still powered but engine just cut as if turned key. I pulled back out and drove around, nothing happened again.

Has anyone ever experienced something like that?

Literally asking myself if Casper turned my key to mess with me LOL.

I checked cables and everything was solid.

It’s strange as heck.

Everything stayed powered; it was like I turned key down 1.

I drove this morning for about 30 mins and nothing happened.

Same thing happened to me after fueling up on Saturday. Went three feet engine died, radio went to AM station, blower motor cycled around, steering wheel jerked all around even though I was going straight.  Turned the key off and restarted and all has been well. No lights or messages either.

I read similar threads reads here and there about battery grounds being loose.  Plan on following cables from the battery and checking all connections at the next opportunity.

Check the grounds near the front corners of the dash

Tell your dealer to look up PIT5405.  It covers the battery cables, grounds, and other areas they need to check.

Yes!! Mine does this. It’s a 2015 Sierra. Some times while I’m flooring it, or turning. It’ll shut off(electrics only). While driving I still have acceleration and the screen will come back on. But some times when turning like in my garage, I’ll have to turn the key back off the  on.

I dropped my 2017 Sierra off at the dealer yesterday (06/04/2019) for this exact same issue. When it happens my steering wheel will snap out of my hands and go back to center, dash lights flicker, truck shuts off, and I get error messages on the dash that range between "Service Stabilitrak", "Service Trailer Brake System", "Park Assist Off". Typically only happens when I am backing up but happened while driving at low speeds in the parking garage at work.

It is exactly like the video posted in the thread above. I have checked and I do not have the ground issue in the front corners of the dash. The dealer called this morning and said there was four pages of codes on my vehicle all pointing towards low voltage readings but they were old readings that happened months ago. My battery is perfect and all the major ground points are secure. The service advisor told me that they are going to continue to look to find out what exactly caused the low voltage codes and get back to me.

Please keep us updated. I have been following this issue for a few years.

Pretty scary having the Electric Power Steering try to break your wrists and steer the truck straight when trying to turn.

I have never had the power steering issues, but one time I pulled into a parking lot and did not notice they had triple speed bumps all about 6 inches apart as I was distracted by kids in the back seat, anyway  I hit this trio of bumps at about 10 MPH and the truck cut off, same way you are saying as if someone turned the key back so the power was on but the engine was killed. I had to manually turn the truck back on.   I checked the dash grounds and they were fine, no sound deadening was under the bolts ( wonder if that was a 14 only issue) and I also checked my battery terminals also good.   A few other times after that when going over bumps, all my dash lights and mylink screen would cut out then come back, engine would cut out for a split second then come back.  I once again torqued down battery cables and its been a few months now without the issue.  so weird.  never threw a code.

Mine is doing the same thing. What did they finally do to fix it. Never seen an update on what it was or how the fixed it.
