2020 Sierra 1500 Updates. Make U Wish You Had Waited?

Recommended Posts

After this info, now i do wish i had waited. I should have known GM would have done something like this, this really irks me. I could careless about the 5.3 getting the 10speed but the 6.2 really does it for the LT TB.

Don’t beat yourself up too bad, nobody saw this coming. In hindsight the Daytona pace truck RST with the 6.2 was a hint. I’m not too shocked by the RST getting it, but both of the Trail Boss models are really surprising since they will definitely eat GMC’s lunch.

With all of the competition in todays truck market, changes happen fast and are often major.

Remember back when GM had the same body style for 10 years straight? Those days are over.

I look for the front ends to change in 2021.

Possibly even a more supple and upscale interior depending on how hot the truck market stays based on oil prices.

I'm not sure I agree that the TB is going to eat GMCs lunch. I spent a lot time in both trucks to make sure I got what i wanted. The trailboss and the AT4 are two totally different vehicles marketed at two totally different customer bases. There is a small cross section that went with the AT4 for the 6.2 but I dont think that is the major driver between the two models.

I ended up with an AT4 6.2 but I would have ended up with a 5.3 AT4 vs a Trailboss. I really liked the 6.2 in the AT4 but it wasnt an engine decision for me.

All anecdotal, but the amount of people on here and the Facebook group that said they bought the AT4 mainly for the 6.2 option / wish the LT TB had the 6.2 seem to be a pretty good number. This is just the most recent thread below, but it reflects the pattern of what I see a lot.

Not saying there aren’t other advantages to the AT4 but the 6.2 option appears to poll near the top no matter what.

Wondering if the 6.2 will be detuned to run on 87 or 89 for the masses in these lower trim level trucks? ?

It’s about damn time though. GM has had this card in their back pocket for years waiting to play it. I wonder if this is an emergency knee jerk reaction to their slowing sales on the T1?

Ill get over it eventually, drove the truck today and the 5.3 really isnt a bad motor. But still...

I'm surprised there's so much hype over the 6.2. Noob question but what does everyone need the power for? Towing?

I'm about to purchase a 2019 Silverado LT. Nothing I see in the 2020 changes intrigue me that much. Course I am coming from a 2009 4.3L Silverado WT to the 5.3, so I'm pretty excited about that.

Bed view camera on the 2020 would have been nice for 2019.  I told my wife that I couldn't understand why they would have all the surround cameras but not have one looking to the bed.  I could have used that numerous times already.

I have absolutely no need for the 6.2, but I had a want for the 6.2. I love having the raw power there when I need / want it. The biggest thing that will be in my hitch is my bike rack. If I had a need to tow with it I would not hesitate to do so. The 5.3 is fine for most but I did not like the 8 speed transmission and after driving the 10 speed there was no other decisions to be made for me.

Just my .02

I’m sure you’ll be very happy with the upgrade. Few, if anyone here, actually NEEDS the 6.2. For my towing the 5.3 would be fine. The difference for me is that with the 6.2 and my boat hitched up, I can still drive “normally”; pass and merge easily. Even get a jump on people at a stop light if need be. My 5.3 never failed me but the ease of which the 6.2 handles things is amazing to me.

I knew they were gonna offer the 6.2 in more trims 2020 the 5.3 just fits most needs and they needed to get some trucks selling and the i6 wasn’t gonna be a 19 model engine it got to long in the tooth come April why build a 19 with a i6 when 20’s started getting built in July’ish. Like most I’ve been waiting since Early 2018 when we got the 1st look at the new models. When I realized how long the i6 was taking I knew I would be getting a 2020 model lol No worrrie tho it should be worth the wait!
