Hey all,

Comparing exhaust and I am having a hard time figuring out what I want.  I have a LT Trail Boss.

Reply with what you got, opinions, interior drone if there is any, and a video is possible.

Thanks.

I have the same model, tried a flow master, not much louder than stock though.    The truck has a big cat and 6 diffusers making it more prone to quietness.  Solution was to remove the muffler, much happier now.  Good growl when accelerating, mild at speed with no drone.   Surprisingly cheap to do also.

  • txab changed the title to 5.3L Exhaust thread

ya i just dropped 250 for a flowmaster 50 and got little to no sound improvement. are you saying just cut the muffler out altogether? will that be too loud to hear the radio? i do have a whine that i think is tires starts about 20 MPH. id like to drown that out with exhaust

Yep, just cut out the muffler and do a straight pipe there. It's not loud in the cabin and no drone.

yep, just have a straight pipe now.  Not sure if there were any flapper valves when stock, but there gone now for sure.  Sounds great, no drone.  Should be about $50 at a muffler shop, maybe 20 mins to finish.

Yeah the Duratracs are a noisier tread design for a mud-AT hybrid tire IMO. Make sure you rotate them frequently.

I just posted the straight pipe videos to show a cheaper option for the guys with dual rear exhaust. Sounds like there isn't much of an exhaust volume increase without removing the flapper valve and going with at least a Flowmaster 40 or even FlowFX muffler. I thought the FlowFX sounded pretty good. There are also mesh screens on the section of of exhaust piping near the spare tire. There are 3 screens on each of the  two dual exhaust pipes.

This one sounds good IMO. I like that it's a SI/DO with new new tailpipes and works with existing bumper exhaust ports.

so i left the flowmaster on and cut the two pipes with the screens out. the guy at the muffler shop thought i was crazy till we fired it up and the sound was there. he'd never seen such a thing. so if you want the sound, put on a flowmaster and cut those stupid baffles off and you'll get the sound.

Try to make an exhaust clip. Fly-by and cold start videos are the best kind to capture.

So the flowmaster 50 has some rumble to it with the screens taken out?

I want a new muffler but nothing loud in the cab and no drone.
