Spring on capless fuel broke

Recommended Posts

HELP! I just bought my 17 Silverado and went to get gas, when I did the spring door on the capless fuel broke off. Does anyone know how to remove the plastic shroud that surrounds it? Seems like it would pry off, but its not budging..... thanks in advance

That shroud won't come off. You have to replace the entire neck.

Should be covered under warranty, unless you are over 36K.

Thank you! Will be taking her in

The picture that was posted is worth a million words...IMO I never fully liked our truck's  capless design.

I don't like seeing dirt and water collecting near the fill inlet. I would rather have the old gas cap type unless GM re-designs their

capless neck to seal better or have a better sealing gas door system.

They won't because of cost, so thats why I'll go backwards with the screw on gas cap neck at some point.

I hate the capless design!  I cannot believe they think this is better than a cap.  I’m in Michigan, got gas today, open gas door and there is snow sitting on the rubber “door”.  I cleared it out with my fingers as best I could, but you can’t tell me that’s not going into the tank??  If I were to just stick the nozzle in all that snow goes right into the neck.  Not to mention when it rains, the opening appears to be designed to collect any rain that gets thru the door!  Am I missing something?
