Good Deal or Not So Good?

Recommended Posts

First time poster here!!!  Getting ready to dump my 2017 F150 for a new 2019 Silverado but could use some expert advice.  I've seen others getting much larger discounts off MSRP but my dealer here in central IL isn't anywhere close to what I'm seeing from some of the posts I've read on this forum.  I'm pretty good with spreadsheets so I put the below image together to help explain what my dealer is quoting me, as well as, my current financial situation.  Looking for some "wiggle-room" help from the likes of said experts!!!  Ready, set, go!!!

Try using cars.com - then select only new Silverado trucks with the specs you want then go from there. It will show you the MSRP as well. I saw $10,000 off of mine from a dealership 70 miles away and I was there the next day buying it.

Hard to say, dealers are probably a little more stingy on the higher trims like the LT Trail Boss. Especially if there aren’t many in your area. That said, it doesn’t strike me as a great deal. The two LT TBs at the dealer down the road are discounted over 6k right out of the gate, before you even sit down with the guy and haggle...MSRPs of 57k and 54k on the other. I am in SE WI though.

Depending on what trim F150 you have, 28k on the trade also seems a bit light but I’m not really plugged into the Ford market.

If you wanted to take the $1500 GM financial rebate that would help a little, assuming you have a credit union you can refinance with. There are numerous other threads covering the ins and outs on that subject. Worth looking into.

Not sure if you guys looked at the bottom of my spreadsheet but I was quoted $3500 off MSRP then another $2k off from the dealer plus $1500 off for GM financing...  so, $3500 + $2000 + $1500 = $7000 off....  It still seems quite low compared to others...  I'm located in central IL.

$3500 off is nothing. Trade in's always complicate things. Would you consider a GMC Sierra SLT or AT4?  Everything you want and more, Dealer installed Pro Comp Level, 20" Fuel wheels, Nitto Terra Grapplers + cheaper price point. Most guys add that stuff later at no small expense. If that's not your cup of tea, you could save more.

Know your KBB basic value, of current car. Consider  private sale options, or at least trade in value and compare to that $28k they are offering. Car Max will low ball you, but dealer likely offering wholesale.

If you want to stick with the exact specs you have, $10k would be my minimum discount target.

I didn't see that at quick glance, but to achieve those extra discounts, that 7.54% note rate is brutal . So, just call it $5,500 discount and go with the lower rate.

Naw, take the discount and then refinance.

Yeah, your right. Just double check that there's no pay off penalty, which is doubtful with GM finance.

Thanks again fellas but unfortunately, I am not interested in a GMC truck.  Let's focus on 2019 Silverado's, OK?  I am definitely planning to re-fi after taking the $1500 discount but I'm still curious to hear if there is anything else I can negotiate on?

There's a great dealership called John Jones Chevrolet in Southern Indiana where you should be able to get at least $10k of MRSP. They're fantastic to work with. Shouldn't be too terribly far from you.

I just did a quick search of their inventory online and in fact they have three vehicles in stock, each with $10k off MSRP.

I selected the LT Trail Boss and I'm seeing quite a few for $12k off.. just go to this link: https://www.cars.com/for-sale/searchresults.action/?mdId=22061&mkId=20053&page=1&perPage=100&rd=150&searchSource=GN_REFINEMENT&sort=price-lowest&stkTypId=28880&trId=36431245&yrId=36362520&zc=61603

I picked 150 mile radius from Peoria, IL since I don't know exactly in IL you are.
