Abort! Abort!

I decided to try and install the bug shield tonight. I should have trusted my gut.

First the edges were rough on the bug shield.

Second the fit to the vehicle didn't seem that good.

Should have walked away right there but I pressed on.

Washed hood real good dried and used provided alcohol pads. Then I got to the second surface prep pad. I get that this thing isn't supposed to be removed, but you may change your mind in the future or it could break. So my assumption going in was this wouldn't permanently damage the vehicle other than some glue residue if removed.

So I used the surface prep pad and by the time I got to the other end of the hood it literally looked like it was removing the paint from my hood. I had these white streaks that were chaulky and almost sticky. I couldn't tell it it was some kind of glue or if it was stripping the paint off my hood.

By that time it was getting dark so i ended up using rubbing compound to get the white stuff off I think. It got dark and you really couldn't tell with a flashlight. Guess I will find out in the morning if the finish is ruined on my hood.

Hopefully not and I can just go get paint protection film like I was planning to originally.

I don't know maybe the appearance of the paint removal was completely normal. But it freaked me out that I just ruined the paint job on a brand new truck.

Tried to get a pic but it was too dark and the camera wouldn't focus. You can kind of see the streaks I am talking about.

If I were to do it again I would just use the alcohol pads only and hope the tape sticks good.f51f95283b6f65c45dee919fec8554cf.jpg

Hard to say as it was raining this morning. I think it was more the prep pad was applying some sort of liquid adhesive bond prep on top of your paint.

I think I was able to get it all off with some rubbing compound.

Finally got mine installed. Turned out pretty good. Don't use that second prep pad. It definitely left some kind of glue residue. It dripped on my bumper and left blue streaks I had to get off.

I think the smoke color is perfect for the trail boss0070d4f5757aca3dfad80e83ffd6c99b.jpg

Is that model the AVS bug shield model 23956?  Looks good, like that it covers the fender corners. Just want to order the right one!  https://www.autoventshade.com/avs-23956-bugflector-stonebug-deflector
