Recommended Posts

I have 2019 5.3 Silverado I'm looking to get a tune iv never used any of the tuners on any other vehicle. Anyone have suggestions on witch one to get as in ,diablo,hypertech,blackbear,ect...... if it matters I'll also be getting cold air intake

So far the 2019's can't be tuned unless you have a custom with the 6 speed transmission I believe. You can send your VIN to Blackbear and they will let you know if it's tuneable as of yet.

Do you plan on adding a performance exhaust?  Black02Silverado lost HP on his 6.2 adding a performance intake and a dealer flash (no exhaust).

I'm far from an expert but after personally speaking to Justin from Blackbear he told me the 19's were locked down by GM. A lot of the manufactures are now doing this now.

The ECU is encrypted to prevent hackers from accessing which is something GM is doing across all there cars since they are shifting towards autonomous vehicles even though there is no autonomy in the Silverado obviously.  The same thing happened with the Corvette ZR1.  It took 11 months for someone to finally crack it and the company that did was HP Tuners.

So performance wise if I don't get an exhaust but intake my best gains would be buy the GM cold air intake and have them flash ecu for the new intake . ?

Click on the link I posted (with dyno pic) and read his post. With the GM intake and a flash, he lost power from stock so I'm not sure a CAI will help you any. I don't know what gains you'll get by adding a performance exhaust with the CAI and a flash.

If somehow they do come up with something, it's likely to be like the ZR1 where you will have to purchase a new computer. The current rate for the ZR1's new computer is like $2000 before buying credits.

The 19 trucks that use a carry over AFM 5.3 and 6L80 can be tuned just like an 18. The 19s with the DFM 5.3/6.2, 4cyl Turbo and Diesel cannot as of yet. I expect the DFM engines will be able this summer but it will come at a cost some may not be willing to pay.

I thought the same thing. I have a 19 with AFM (Custom Trail Boss). Every company that I've reached out to says they cannot tune my truck.
