Cold snap with light snow. High of 18 yesterday, -2 this morning.

We’re getting ready for our first major cold front. It could get to 20 degrees in the AM Tuesday and struggle to get past freezing. OH NO.😬 There’s a chance of snow, frozen precipitation. There’s going to be a run on toilet paper, milk and bread. It’s going to last almost 12 hours! Ahhh.😱 For the people who may suffer from anxiety from the freezing two years ago. There’ll be hot lines open to call. For group therapy there will be warming centers to go to. For a person who grew up in a state with 4 seasons. It can get quite amusing.

Just came in from clearing some snow of Dizzy, walk and drive. Fingers are protesting this typing. LOL. After the half foot yesterday at near freezing and yet sticking we got another two or three inches of powder. So, clearing flour off a gravel roof sort of thing. Warmed up some since 6 this morning. Was 17 with windchill at -7 and windy. Now 20 with windchill of 3 and a 17-mph wind. Doors of Dizzy frozen shut. Rough ice on the windows. It was some fun. County plowed us in again.

AWD will get me over it if needed. Power outages off and on.

We are experiencing record breaking colds in many parts of the country and our area is no exception.  However, our record breaking temperatures are much more mild than the typical weather found in most other regions.  We spent several years living close to Canada's northern border and have a different perspective on cold and snow than others in our current neighborhood!  The local news has several reports of building closures due to burst pipes and two senior friends phoned us to say they've been moved from their respective condos due to flooding.  Of course the two friends who recently experienced flooding from burst pipes were dealing with unbearably hot condos last summer.   I am surprised that so many buildings are constructed without the ability to withstand temperatures a few degrees outside of normal!  Building codes will need to keep up because it appears that extremes in weather will be a normal expectation!

We have to drip faucets under 20 degrees. I don’t remember doing that in New Jersey. They’re finally building homes with plumbing in the center of the houses inside the insulation. There’s pipes now that can expand to resist bursting. We had to be wary when we moved to Texas over 40 years ago. The codes were more relaxed than we were used to. Homes built in flood plains. Exposed plumbing and septic systems in ground that didn’t perk. Our current home is on a hill. Our previous home had a challenging septic system.

Sometimes poor inspections or lack of proper inspections

When I first moved to the Conroe area. There was several subdivisions extensions that had to be abandoned do to flooding. In New Jersey we were site prep contractors. You couldn’t build the first house within a section without sidewalks, utilities, and of course everything up to grade. We left because it was too regulated, among other things. But here in Texas at that time throw down some blocks and build a house. Two 55 gallon drums run an over flow to the bar ditch your good. Driveway just buy a 4x4 your good. My first house was that. Over the years I updated. The house I’m in now was just a house. Luckily I had a 4WD when the first rain hit. The first thing I did was a driveway. 7K just in materials. That was 25 years ago. Thats fine. I’ll take that compared to New Jersey.
