who's gonna be the Corsa 6.2L guinea pig?

Recommended Posts

Yeah, it’s all situational and I guess I could have made that point better early on. Certainly don’t want to hate on people for saving a few bucks, but in this case it just didn’t really make sense to me after laying it out in my head.

If mine had come with the mesh resonators I may have done the same thing or something similar as I think it would be fun to “tune” the sound.

It’s Corsa on a 6.2 GM engine is gonna sound badass. They just have to reroute the piping it’s gonna be the same material as a 18and under your would think?  Some power gains but it’s for the sound your not really gonna notice a few HP in a big truck but it’s gonna sound sweeeet!! 1200 for big exhaust isn’t very bad when even a little car can cost 800 for one depending on brand. Buy it if you want your truck to flow a little better and sound mean! Other wise muffler delete if your really not wanting to spend cash??

I finally gave in and got it on my 6.2.  Very easy install.  Took under 1.5 hrs by myself on the driveway.  Put in 4wd and back up some ramps.  Couple things though.  1. Get some exhaust hanger pliers and use some sort of lube.  I used silicone spray cuz wd40 is petroleum based and will break down rubber.  2.  Put the Y on the muffler prior to installing.  Then you dont need a stand for the back part because you can go ahead and use the hanger.  Just dont tighten the band clamp holding it on til after you have the muffler on.  3.  Put the pieces that go into the tips on with the hanger before you put the pipe coming from the Y back.  Again, so you wont need a stand.

Another big thing because when I first installed it I was terribly disappointed.  It will NOT be loud at all when you first install it.  BUT, give it a couple days to break in and you'll be surprised at how loud it gets.  Very little if any "drone" and it sounds mean.  If you are going slow, like the 25mph limit 1.5 miles through my neighborhood, you WILL hear the DFM when it kicks in.  Other than that it's rare you notice it.  If you're looking for it you can occasionally, but I'm kinda sound sensitive I guess.  Aggravates the crap out of me cuz I hate the DFM to begin with.

Finally, don't judge by video sound clips.  It really doesn't give you a realistic expectation at all.

Was stock exhaust removal simple? I want to be able to go to stock form if ever needed

my 17 I removed the stock in full and when I traded it in I reinstalled in full and it was simple other than lowering spare and rotating back it into place

thx

I cut mine.  There's a couple guys on here that have gotten them out as 1 piece, but I don't know how hard it would be.  Didnt look easy so I cut it.  I kept the factory system though, and don't think it would be hard to weld that 1 cut back together if needed.

Maybe I’ve been lucky, I’ve been using the same bender for 40 years. Never a rust out problem. I’m not cheap, I just can’t see spending 1000s for a few hundred dollars job. On a stock truck change the muffler or whatever. It’s not rocket science.

A TIG welded Stainless system doesn't rust. MIG welded Aluminized Steel does and  last one to three years in the rust belt. You're not lucky Stan, you're in Texas! ?.

Stainless materials do not cost 10X so I figure these systems are priced for the repair jobs the bender wont get. ?

You may be rushing the rust out a bit[emoji2960]. I’ve been using benders since the 70s in New Jersey. Although I was later based in Texas. My travels included the rust belt. South Texas humidity is pretty oppressive. There’s mist till 10, burns off. Then back with high humidity by three. I remember bringing a cherry 74 Nova from Jersey to Texas in 79 when we moved here. With in 6 months rust was showing up. Like you I offer alternate ideas based on experience. Even the cheap piping they used in the 70s would give a person more than a couple years of service. Even in extreme cases. Like I mentioned maybe I got lucky with a good bender. His welds never interfered with flow. You could go with flange, stick, mig or clamp. Can’t believe he was that unusual.

I did some additional checking. You always do that to me. I admit I’ve lived a sheltered life. And some my experience has bordered on luck. While I stand by my original statement save your money and just change the muffler. Rather than mail order exhaust on a stock truck. No real gains there. My exhaust guy for 40 years use factory type exhaust unless otherwise requested. Stainless rather than aluminum. If a bender in the snow-belt is using other than the most rust resistant tubing, he’s doing his customers a dis service. I’ve bought mail order exhaust for diesels we were modifying. Our bender couldn’t get the size we needed at the time. As with anything price and quality check is a good idea.

I'm really hesitant to drop $1200+ on a cat back that doesn't even have a sound clip out yet, but dang I'm getting bored with this pitifully silent stock exhaust.  I also hesitate because I think I'd prefer Borla as I like the deeper tone better than the raspy, but they're dragging feet badly.  Also waiting for Range to release the DFM disabler cuz I can't imagine what these things are gonna sound like with performance exhaust running on 2 cylinders.

Wish you could buy patience.  I certainly have none!

Has anyone ordered the new Corsa system for the 6.2L yet?

i have a pontiac g8 with afm, which i know is not the same as dfm, but corsa was one of only 2 catbacks that could handle the 8 to 4 drop without drone, and borla wasn't the other. It was a price we paid for a slightly less aggressive tone and generally the most expensive catback for the g8 on the market. But it worked and they're very well built.
