Jingle jingle underneath only in 2wd

I received a call from my gm rep today asking how my repair went. Funny thing is I've never heard from my dealer that my parts had arrived!! I'm selling or trading mine asap. Maybe back to a 2wd is in my future. Can't bring myself to buy another brand of truck. This is pitiful!

I’ve considered going to a 2500 if they can’t get it figured out. Haven’t heard of the HD having the issue

I think if you look up the SU5 Axles don't have this issue, only the SU4s.  I've been doing some research and trying to find out which models have the SU4s or if it just depends on where the truck is made.

Mine was built in Indiana.  If you go look at them and scan the barcode on the B pillar you can see the build code.  I'm going to make sure when I get rid of this one that it doesn't have the SU4 axle in the new one.

I hope you're right but I would think that if the SU5 didn't have the problem that GM would simply just change out the axles to the SU5 as the fix

I think the issue is it changes your vin if you change the axle. This is why they’re not swapping them.

The axle has nothing to do with your VIN. 
 

The VIN tells a few things about configuration (nothing about axles) and where the vehicle was built by who.

It’s tied to the build codes that are on the door. I think those are related to the vin number. So if you took your truck to another dealer that didn’t know they replaced your axle with another and they pull your vin from the system it’s going to show the old Axle based off their cross referencing the build codes. It wouldn’t change your VIN but the link your build codes would be off and they wouldn’t know what parts to use.

GM will send your the build sheet for any gm vehicle if you ask them and it will pull all the options based on your VIN. So the trucks with the problems are SU4 build codes. That’s what will show up in the system. I don’t think they have a way or want to change the build codes on a vehicle because of that.

It’d be in your file no matter what. 
 

the RPO codes just represent what the vehicle was built with. They don’t change after that but might mean nothing 20 years down the road.

My dealer just called to let me know that my stub shaft is in. It's already been changed twice, I don't know why they think changing it a third time is going to remedy anything. I clearly told my GM rep that I refuse to let them change it again and she agreed. That was over 2 weeks ago and now she won't return any of my calls. This is my 4th GM truck and it will definitely be my last. This has been nothing but a nightmare.

Don't know where you live but here in Wisconsin if they fix the same thing 4 times and still doesn't fix the issue or the vehicle is not operable for 30+ days, it can be lemon law'd. You'd have to look up your state laws to determine what they consider lemon law. I'm waiting for them to get the axle shaft, its currently on back order. This will only be the first time they'll have replaced it. But if they replace the shaft 4 time before a real fix is found out, I'm lemon lawing the truck.

So, another victim to poor design. I started having this issue at around 6,000 miles. I have a 2020 RST z71 with those SU4 axles. Found this thread and finally can move forward with potential fixes. Looking at building a case to lemon law the truck. Working with my local dealership, I was floored they couldn't get this right. I finally found the PIP that "GM says fixes" the issue. Hoping it actually does, but after ready 30 pages of this thread, I think I'll end up in the same boat. Ohio has a one year or 18,000 mile lemon law. So far I'm at 10,500 miles and have until March. This will be the third repair, so hopefully I will have time to lemon law if it doesn't fix it.

In Ohio, the first repair attempt just has to be done in the first year... you can start lemon law after a year as long as the issue started and repair attempted before the first year or 18k... i'm in the same boat, on my 2nd repair attempt now... 1st attempt was last October, was quiet until late July or so and started making noise again. took it in late August to be told they were waiting for a new repair, now parts are finally in.

Thanks for the info, I read over it quickly. Hopefully it will fix it. I don't want to have to go through the process of buying a new truck if it comes down to it, however, if it does end up going down that road, I will probably buy a 2018 and get a few more options for less $$ used.

Hi,

I had the same noise that started around 5k Miles.

its the FR L. Drive shaft that goes into the diff that makes that noise.

i noticed whenever the suspension traveled in or out it stopped making that noise. 
so I decided to lift the truck and see what happens!

guess what the sound is Completely goneCompletely gone

so I suggest you all buy a 40 inch lift kit from ready lift and the sound will go away

So GM finally made an offer. A horrible offer. Let’s give you an additional 24000 mile warranty. Yeah, NO. So I can have it back at the dealership every 50 miles!

This madness needs to end. So sick and tired of the issues and the pure lack of customer service.

Will NEVER own another GM product again.
