My new truck

Recommended Posts

My brother and I recently aquired a 51 chevy 5- window body along with a 73-79 k-5 blazer frame 4wd  along with 4 engines, 3 trannies, 4 axles, and 1 transfer case  So, we are going to have some fun once we can get a house up here that has a decent back yard. But our overall plan is to put a 454 (which is one of the engines) in it, and we are thinking a th400 to go behind it (any suggestions on the best auto to go behind are welcome) I got a buddy that can get me two rockwell axles for $200 total (all the axles are half ton axles) and I am going to see about getting a NP 205 for the t-case ( the one it has is a NP-203 with the conversion on it where you can manually switch it from 4-2 wd) We plan on getting either a 6 or 8 inch suspension lift for it, and putting on some meats, probably around 40's or so, I am also considering making a flat bed for it instead of trying to rig up the body mounts for the bed as well as the cab. I was so excited I had to tell someone, but I hope to have this bad @$$ truck together in atleast 3 years, which having school, and crap like that I don't know... Wish me luck...

I don't believe there was any carburetors in the mix, if there was then it would be on the engine that is already on the frame (327 I believe) But when I get back home next weekend I will find out for sure. (By Q-jet, you mean a specific type of carburetor right?) But I can't wait until I can inventory everything and sell off what I don't need... woo hoo, this project is all I can think about while I am up here at school, it's not like I don't have enough think about already....

Right, Q-jet is shorthand for Quadrajet, primarily manufactured by Rochester though a few came from Carter (not to be confused with the Carter AFB). Q-jets were the 4 barrel carb GM used on their engines from the early 60's to the late 80's. Rochester carbs came in all varieties from 1 barrel to 4 barrel. I would specifically be interested in a 4 barrel which is what is probably bolted on to those engines if they have any sort of carburetors at all. Someone might have already harvested them though.

Before swapping your carb from the 327 to the 454, you may want to verify how much CFM of air it can flow. The carb on the 327 might be too restrictive for that 454.

Thanks!

Actually I am not going to be putting that carb from the 327 on the 454, I think I am going to go with fuel injection, most likely TBI, but I just heard about an edelbrock kit so i am going to check that out but I am pretty sure it is going to be expensive... Thanks for the help man...
