Anyone have frame rust yet? I do!

Recommended Posts

I took mine in yesterday. The Service peeps looked and acted like I was nuts for bringing up the rust issue. I stood my ground and they sanded/pained it. BTW, while I was waiting I looked at 2 other new T1s on the lot and they both had minor rust. Lesson learned: always look under the truck before purchasing!

It's bound to happen unfortunately.  I drove through a field today with somewhat tall grass.  Afterwards, for giggles, I crawled under the truck, and noticed where the wax coating had rubbed off... From grass/weeds, not limbs, sticks, etc..

I'm a Ford guy....was....have had them all my life, and I have to say other than this wax "protective" coating, I love my Trail Boss.

If you use the truck, the coating will come off, no question.  But come on GM, this stuff is not good.  I suspect they know that.  It's either a cost cutting feature, or planned obsolescence, in order to get you back into the market place.

Wow that's just so wrong. Why can't they use the dip ELPO process on the frames?

Yea but who on earth would return to GM if the frame on your previous truck rusted like that. I wouldn't

Good point, just makes no sense.  Only complaint I have with my Trail Boss.

Iron on other models won't rust?

My crew cab  has no fender liners in the rear tell me that's not going to become a rust issue in the future. I did buy undercoating and sprayed them the best I could but I know its going to become an issue sooner or later. I wish I would have noticed this before I bought the thing!

Not as much because they use an electrically charged paint dip bath to almost plate them. GM is the only Company still using the old wax method. Again I wish I would have known I should have done my homework.

I wish GM would use a good epoxy paint coating. That stuff holds up great in a lot of applications I've used it for. The E-coating process companies like Ford uses aren't great either. My buddy's 2016 looked about like this after a year of owning it:
