Anyone have frame rust yet? I do!

Wax dipped frames can and do hold up IF done RIGHT.

My boss has a 2016 2500HD and the wax dipping on it looks as good as when new.

Granted his rear axle and diff which had subpar paint are a bit rusty looking now after a few years.

As I said before, looks like GM did not learn from K2 Build processes, let alone change them for the better.

The top of the rear ends aren’t even painted at all so far as I can tell. 

 

We aren't short on road salt here in WI and my 16 also looked like new when I traded it. Just touch it up as needed and take care of it with some underbody washes. I see the OP’s pics and it’s a 5 minute solution. I wouldn’t have the thing recoated elsewhere, but that’s just me. Often they make one hell of a mess down there and some of the coatings will just dis-bond and trap salt and water, accelerating rust rather than preventing it.

Not unheard of to have superficial rust like that where the coating is thin around the holes and edges. I had to recoat my 19 and my 16 in those same spots. The nice thing is you’re seeing it early, so it’ll end there. Just go down occasionally and touch it up.

 

Yeah even e-coated or painted frames will form that early rust on edges and welds. I've seen 2015+ F-150 frames that were less than a few months old with rust forming on every sharp edge and weld.

 

I switched back and forth between Fluid Film and Daubert to keep the frame protected. It worked great for me. I started using them after I lost a little of the original wax due to poor adhesion from the factory. The worst thing guys can do is use too much water pressure when cleaning off salt. The other mistake is to use a rubberized coating over areas that have already lost wax. Rubberized coatings can't penetrate down to the steel. It just sits on top of the oxidized metal and creates a space where rust continues to grow.

The 2011 Avalanche I traded in had bad rust on the frame, starting to show rust on the bottom of all 4 doors and the tailgate, as well as at the corners of the cab.

 

The first stop after leaving the dealer with the RST was the nearby Corrosion Free vendor for complete undercoat!

These wax dipped frames just don't hold up, never have and never will. Those without problems i bet do not live in the rust belt of this country.
 
Though i will say Shamrock do you live by the ocean or have you driven that truck in salt water because that is something more than just road salt imo. I have almost 5 winter seasons with my truck in massachusetts and yes we use that prespray crap they now use that literally eats metal and it does not look even 1/10th as bad as yours. Your truck looks like it sat in salt water for a couple days and then was left uncleaned.
Live in Western NY. We get lake effect snow daily so the roads are salted almost daily from November to March.

The dealer said they should hear an answer this week. Worse case is maybe have it stripped and coated elsewhere? Not looking into sinking a ton of money into this issue. 
There was a TSB on the 14-18 trucks for touching up minor frame rust before the truck is sold. I don't have the number but your dealer should be able to look it up. The wire brush/strip the rusty areas and reapply the dauberts black stuff.

I am in the rust belt, Michigan and every vehicle looks like this after one of two winters of salted roads.  Its not only GM vehicles.  Have  friend with a 2016 F150 and his bad, he drives every day to work.  Rust is like death, its inevitable.

Just bought the truck a few weeks ago. I went to install side steps and I found some rust issues. Truck has a production date of 1/19 so its literally only a few months old and had only been on the lot for a month. Dealer says they are going to submit the pictures and see if GM will do anything. Truck is a custom trail boss.  There are plenty of spots doing this on the truck but these were the easiest ones to take pictures of.

I had it really bad on my '14 (also first year if a redesign). I would definitely bring it to the dealers attention because they re-apply it in many cases. I noticed the '16's and up seen to have better adhesion. Doesn't hurt to ask.
