Confirming Numbers

Recommended Posts

I have a Crew Cab 2019 z71 RST 5.3L with the 3.23 gears. From what I understand it can tow 9600lbs and can handle 960lbs of tongue weight on the hitch?

My camper weighs about 6400lbs dry and has a 720lb tongue weight. Its towed great with my 2016 double cab 5.3L with 3.42 gears.

I just wanted to make sure I understood the numbers correctly.

Your tow rating is on your door.  There should be a sticker specific to your truck's configuration

Your new transmission gearing more than makes up for the lower gear ratio compared to your old truck. Did you have 6 sp in the 2016?

I think a lot also has to do with how high and how steep. Level ground for 15 minutes might be different than 11000 foot mountain passes in Colorado.

Assuming you are using a weight distribution hitch

Definitely use a weight distribution hitch. I am in western new york, furthest I travel with it is about 4 hours away and thats mostly thruway. Not a lot of hills, some on some trips but nothing frequent or too steep.

You have the same truck that I do. Here's the sticker on the inside of the door, which confirms the numbers you're giving here...

The My Chevy app also has a nice Trailering Calculator you can use to sort all this out.
