Adding UHX RPO...?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2016 Sierra, and have access to all the hardware I need to swap in Lane Keep Assist, etc. (UHX). The hardware is not an issue, but does anyone know if its possible to get the UHX RPO added to the truck? The first dealership I called said its not possible, and that GM wont do it for them because of liability, but I dont know if I believe that. In the old days, we could just fire up the Tech2 and add an RPO. Does GDS2 do this now? Are there some/all RPO codes that need to be 'okayed' by GM?

Stealership isn’t pulling your leg.GM no longer supports adding options other than the ones offered in the accessories department or online store. There is no programming/ technical support for them to do it anymore on any of the newer vehicles. Apparently GM has decided that if you wanted it you should have bought it that way end of story.

There’s guys on here that have figured workarounds for adding some options not sure if lane departure is one?  I did a google search and there are several threads but didn’t see anybody saying they had successfully accomplished it?

When these trucks first came out in 14. The word from GM was that if the truck did not come with the option from the factory. There was no way to add it. That being said there has been some people that were successful in changing or adding a few things. As for what you want. I don't think it can be done.

Personally I want less driver aids in my truck, not more. If I could rid myself of ABS/TCS/SCS/Torque Management etc. when I hit the "off" button, or had a "sport" mode I would be a happy camper. Nothing worse than a vehicle deciding it knows better than the driver regardless of the situation. Want to spin around on a one lane snow covered bush road? Nope, not with a GM, you are doing a 43 point turn in the name of safety, until a log truck comes barreling down the hill and kills you and your passengers. I like the systems on icy highways, but aside from that, I would appreciate being able to turn it off when needed.

You ain’t doing it right ? you have to hold the button till both lights on the dash light up!

I don’t drive mine in winter except up and down the gravel road once a month. This year I thought I’d try kicking off the traction control and stability crap (or whatever it’s called) and went playing out back behind the shed on the snow covered ice. I was pulling donuts, 180s and drifting like a Ken Block video (well in my head anyway). I even had to reengage it when I was messing around in 2wd cause I got “stuck” in one spot doing a G80 “burn out” and couldn’t get the truck to go forward or backwards anymore...

Why are you wanting to add the RPO?  For resale/trade value add later?

So I didn’t mention this initially to prevent causing confusion, but I’m gonna be working on porting Comma AI OpenPilot to my truck (semi-autonomous driving), but by default it is made to leverage LKAS in modern vehicles. Hence, why I need to add the LKAS first. The truck obviously still has the electric power steering, so it might still be possible without LKAS, but would be much much easier with it.

I contacted the dealer Techline, and ACDelco TDS and neither are able to offer a VCI number to add the camera module (in other words, the UHX RPO) due to “GM Brand Quality policy”, as stated by other people here. So I’m back to the drawing board trying to figure out a way to hack around it somehow.

It kind of lets you, but as soon as your wheels spin to 50kph (35mph ish) it kicks the SCS back on. This conveniently happens at around 90 degrees of your bush road 180 lol. I can do donuts in my yard too, but when I need to spin a 14' CCLB truck around on a 16' foot road, I need those tires cooking more than 35mph to do what I need. I should have filmed my attempt last week for the Forums enjoyment, a 90* followed by a 14 point turn lol. I felt like Austin Powers in that scene where he is trying to turn the luggage vehicle around in a hallway.

Good luck with that. My lane keep assist works so crappy there is no way on Gods green earth I would trust that system not to get me killed.

Any luck with this?  I am not so interested in a self driving truck but I would love to have adaptive cruise control.  This Comma AI seems like the only way to add it to these trucks.

Nah. It seems the trucks need to come with active cruise and lane keep assist to begin with, in order to make autonomous work. Through my research it seems literally impossible to add those features. It’s simply not allowed by GM. No way to program it in, at all. Must be a liability issue.
