GREAT news! DFM disable coming soon

So newdude you're saying M9 will disable AFM/DFM but M10 is the same as D and does not disable AFM/DFM...

Yes. But who wants to essentially convert their trans to a 9 speed, and have to click the shift button 8 times before they take off every time? Seems like a major pain to avoid a mode that is almost imperceptible anyhow.

I would think after almost a year of trying, Range is probably going to give up on this pretty soon, if they haven’t already.

I've added a performance exhaust & air intake and the truck doesn't run/shift correctly. It seems I've got ahead of myself because there's currently no tune available for my truck. My exhaust guy told me if I could disable the DFM it would make a big improvement and it does. I don't want to run through this process before I take off every time but if that's what I have to do until I can get the truck tuned then I guess that's what I'll do.

Is there another option??

Why would you want to disable this??

When I had a Ram with MDS (same spiel as AFM) people who loved to mod their exhaust would complain about the drone of the engine in V4 mode, so they would disable MDS. On my 2011, Tow/Haul mode would deactivate MDS, some people just drove in Tow/Haul mode all the time. For some folks the sound and vibration of V4 mode just bothers them, which I can understand.

DFM is still very new. I haven't read about any wide spread durability issues with keeping AFM activated, but I've often wondered about the long-term effects of deactivating the same cylinders every time. Would that cause different wear patterns in the valve train between cylinders? I've followed several rebuild threads and have seen evidence that it could have some effect on very high-mileage engines. They still ran fine, but the wear level was noticeable and measurable. But as far as affecting performance over the average lifespan of an engine, probably not.

I would think that DFM would not be an issue at all in that regard, since it cycles between cylinders, it's not the same cylinders every time. Seems like a vastly superior system overall, IMHO. However, the sound of the engine might still be affected, which may bother some people. I haven't driven a truck with DFM yet so I have no opinion of the sound one way or the other.

One other reason, with which I tend to agree, is anything that adds a level of complexity to a system increases the probability of issues down the road. Simplicity is king when it comes to reliability and serviceability.

What intake do you have? I’m on the stock one, but I do have the GM performance exhaust installed. I really don’t notice DFM anymore now than before. I wouldn’t hold your breath on a tune unfortunately.

I added an AFE Vulcan Series SS exhaust and a K&N Air Charger intake. It sounds mean... I could definitly feel it having issues when the DFM dropped cylinders. Puting it in manual shift mode disables the DFM and it runs great. I just just don't want to play that game long term...

Any updates on the release of the dfm disable for the 19+ trucks?

Welcome to this forum.  You will find a diverse range of opinions here for you to consider.  Whenever I read about disabling AFM or DFM it reminds me of my next door neighbour showing me his brand new 1975 automobile the day he drove it home.  The next day he proudly called me over to show me his modification.  My neighbour had cut off the shoulder strap portion of his seat belts in his new car because this new safety crap was stupid and uncomfortable.   I am not suggesting that AFM or DFM are safety features but they are mechanical improvements to your car. You will have no trouble finding negative press on mechanical improvements or changes.  Those improvements associated with safety or environmental improvement are particularly vulnerable to attack.  I know you didn't ask for my opinion, but I'm suggesting that a response of "Neveruary 32" is not all bad!

I understand it’s to save fuel and such just not a fan of the shudder or helicopter sound you get with an aftermarket exhaust.

?????

Nope, I don't have any such sound, and I'm running Borla S-type catback exhaust.

In case anyone is interested, I emailed range (again for like the 5th time since April) and rather than getting a generic we're working on it and don't know when it'll be done answer I got this.  Cautiously optimistic.  Would be awesome to have it by end of year.

And before everyone jumps in to ask why I want it or what the big deal is or they can't fell or tell when it kicks in, I have Corsa exhaust on my 6.2 and you can DEFINITELY tell when it's in DFM.  Sounds like crap.
