I posted on the H/D forum but not many there have older trucks.

Perhaps someone here can help out!!!

Could someone tell me how many grease fittings I should fill when I service.

I believe I find 11 and always feel I'm missing some.

Also I was curious, I have been using a extra capacity oil filter from NAPA and was wondering if anyone else runs with this type filter. Fill up is approx. 5 3/4 qts.

Is this a good practice? Years ago it was common, their almost hard to find. Mabey the 4x4's can't fit them? Anyway I figure it's better to be working with more oil in the system but now wonder if that could affect oil pressure? Any thoughts?

Also, this board is great

Makes me want to go with an 04, too bad by the time I get that type of $$$ together I'll probably always be a body style or two behind

Although with that new front end..........

Thanks!!!

Hey now, older trucks are great. Nothing wrong with being a style or three behind. Of course my '02 was awesome when I had it but that's another story.

I'd think more oil in the system is better. That's why there are such things as 7 and 8 quart pans that can be bolted up to the small block Chevy. I would think that more oil would dissipate heat better and not get as dirty as quickly. As long as the system is set up for the extra oil I wouldn't think it would affect oil pressure either way.

I personally like the old bodystyle trucks better and they have proven themselves to us at work... So thumbs up with that. :)

As far as putting a bigger filter on heck yes run a bigger filter.. more oil, sticking down more probably cools it off more too. I would get a bigger filter for mine but GM desided to go flaming homosexual on me and put a Honda Civic PF 49 on my truck... It has Briggs and Stratton stamped on the side of it I don't know what that's all about...hehe.... It should have no affect on your oiling system same presure volume...Maybe a little more oil starvation after you first change your oil on start up given you don't fill your filter up before putting it on the truck... That about all I can see that would be a negative.

As far as grease fitting you have more than I do..

I have top and bottom balls so there's 4

Tierod ends 2

Tierod joints 2

Drag arms to tierod 2

so total of 10..

I would like to know where the 11th ones at.. If I have it...

Not to mention I've put greasable U-joints in my truck the factory ones didn't last long..
