I missed this when it posted. How? I don't know. Great result! I enjoyed unpacking it. Havoline Pro RS seems to be a winner. 😉

They raised the price and it did well but I got lower bearing wear with QS and RLI mix and Amsoil ASL. Amsoil ASL got 0 piston wear.

The latest ongoing test of the Mobil Full Syn 5w30 is THE SAME OIL AS GM ACDELCO 5w30 and its barely slowing oil usage.

Someone here says his switch to AC DELCO 5w30 GEN 3 stopped his oil usage but I have not seen that.

When it uses oil I can see that oil residue IN THE exhaust pipe its really interesting and the residue analysis is most likely polymer like fuel polymers.  VII most likely after permanent shear damage.

this is a question for 4banger and grumpy bear and anyone who wants to answer. i now have 65k miles on my 2.7 and since i have had the truck i have tried every type of oil in this engine trying to reduce its oil consumption. omsoil , mobile 1 quacker state redline and others. i change my oil at 40% on the olm and every time it is not even on the dipstick.i have no visible leaks and have to assume it is burning it. 4banger you said you went back to using the dealer to do your oil and you have no consumption problems anymore, is it still that way. the reasons i ask is because i had the dealer do my last oil change and figured they over filled it because at 40% it was still full, so i had them do it again and checked to make sure it was at the right level and it was. 2nd dealer change and now at 60% and it is still full. so my next question is for grumpy bear, what is the difference from the premium oils i was using to the dealership oil and why did it stop consuming oil

See my latest comments for where I am heading.

Well, ordered both the iDash and Pedal monster. Want to get a stock baseline with the iDash on a few parameters before installing the intake and hot/cold pipes.

look forward to seeing how you make out

being Canadian and travelling a bunch I've noticed recently when I put petrocanada fuel in it for some reason it feels like a monster and wants to run away down the road by itself, like wtf is that? highlights what would be possible with tuning etc., I mean I always feel like the truck is strong and I'm also in a 22 refresh h.o. and that this truck is not typical of the v8 gm's with the super heavy throttle pedal and reluctant motor that wants to slow down rather than speed up that I've hated about gm in the past...so never felt need for a pedal commander in this one and it goes freely and willingly, much better foot to brain interface....anyway, that's my half a cent, will enjoy your journey...keep posting it here

i look forward to see what kind of results you see once the gauge is installed. i have the first gen 2.7 and you will be amazed at how little it actually uses the turbo. i have had a gauge in mine for the last 20k miles and on my commute to work at speeds of 90 kilometers or 55 mph it will only use boost on hills , flat road it is in vacuum most of the time

Ya, there are times as far as pedal goes where it def feels like dead zones, and thats kinda what i wondered about the turbo with how it felt at times. Figured this may help with both, get rid of dead zones and maybe have turbo spooling up more just doe to the pedal position and it calling for a bit more. The idash should let me see most of whats going on. Im interested in the temps at intake and at turbo/manifold, the boost and air density. Then plan to conpare that after installing the CAI andhot/cold pipes. We have a lot of mid 70s temps this week that should be a good baseline for ambient temp.

PedalMonster and iDash showed up today, ill get those in tomorrow and data this week. Heading up the mountain next weekend to harvest a xmas tree so get good info on some big hills and see when im really in the boost and temps going on.

If anyone is curious about specific data points, post up and ill see what data its giving me and report back.

Update on our  22 LTD @45000 miles and using Mobil Full Syn 5w30 dexos1 GEN3. It used nearly a qt @5600 miles on the oil drain.  Thats better than adding 3/4 qt 4700 miles on a mix of 5 qts QS 5w30 GEN3  and 1 Qt  RLI 5w20 HD low ash.

I will be testing Chevron Delo 600 10w30 syn blend that contains VERY LOW ZDDP but additives that allow it to handle HD diesel and natural gas engines contact & power cylinder pressures.  Its sulfated ash content is 0.4 or less that means less metallic deposits on rings, valves, piston tops/lands and spark plugs.

Why? Because this engine design has a sliding wear component that the unique DELO 600 might mitigate damage to polymers used in other oils and I think they may be permanentaly damaged. Delo 600 most likely uses little or no VII but GRP III and GRP II cuts with pour point depressants that do more than any PPD ever did.

My Canadian friend with the White beauty with a H.O. that found oil usage slowed using GM Dexos 5w30 is on to something but its not a total solution.

Delo 600 MIGHT just MIGHT show some directional benefit of less deposits, better sliding wear on valve train when those two center cylinder shut off or start up which is constant and nearly undetectable.

I have kept fuels dilution down to 0.6% when the target is 0.5% or less. Most other engines of this design will run 1% or higher fuel in the oil.

Delo 600 is a anti noxidant too. Nitration NOT oxidation is the enemy of every damn GM engine we discuss here. GM like all OEM's is designing engine oil to handle NOx holding as a liquid filter. That damages the oil too.

FINALLY the real secret for ANYONE here is allow a 1 minute cooldown. GM does not suggest a idle period to stabilize the oil temp. I think the additive packages of our even GEN 3 oils is cooking on the turbo circuit and that eats about a QT of oil in a 5000 -6000 cycle oil drain.

Will fill the reader in on my results after winter up here at 9000'.  BTW I run almost exclusively E15 fuels.

4banger, I suspicion with the Petro Canada fuel, boost in thump is most likely  a different Petro Canada additive package and maybe fresher fuel.  We foul these direct injectors easily and that affects the plug cleanliness and over time valve and ring and piston idealized cleanliness.

DELO 600 10w30 data, tests very closely to a 5w30 but it IS NOT A DEXOS APPROVED OIL. DO not use if under warranty or not testing with oil analysis. I am not sharing here to recommend this oil but a concept of why some of us are consuming oil.

So got the iDash and Pedal Monster in last Friday, then headed up North to cut down our X-mas tree. Still playing with all the data I can see, but like Silveradosid said, I was shocked to see how little i am in boost or very little (1-5lbs) when just flat land cruising. Did get some info though I wanted as far as a baseline before adding in the CAI and hot/cold pipes. I need to see if it will give me CFM off the MAF

Intake air temp and manifold air temp is about 30° diff when not under load. When you under load its around 20°.  This held true with ambient temps anywhere from 27° to 70°.  Saw boost peak at about 23-25lbs when on it.

HP/TQ wise, it's def a TQ monster when pulling hills. At around 65-75mph pulling about a 6% grade hill for like 10miles it was 150ish HP per the ECU and about 300-330tq. All of this was around 2500-3000 RPM.

I need to do some research into air density into the manifold as opposed to temps into the manifold. But the iDash tells you a lot and its great, especially for those of us with Customs that dont have a ton of dash info. Even just seeing what gear the trans is in.

As for the Pedal Monster... holy sh*t. What a difference even at just 1/2 of the initial "City" setting. Coming off a stop its how vehicles used to be. Yes it will tank your milage, but man does it make it much more enjoyable if your feelin frisky at times. On the highway and at speed, it def helps with passing. Def puts me into boost sooner just due to it calling for more pedal. IN "sport" mode its even more so. I can see somewhere in the mid to upper "City" setting being my daily thing.

As i learn some more about the data it can give and how that relates Ill keep posting up. If anyone has questions let me know. Setup/install super easy. Got the mount that ties into the grab handle.

Vince can you read oil temps? If so share some at different operating range. I can’t afford all this newfangled electronics but interested in that metric. Especially delta between cruising oil temps vs idle off a run and near shutdown.

Yup, 99% sure it will give me oil temp. Ill check this afternoon that it does and set that as a saved cluster and get some #'s the next time I'm out for a bit.
