also saw a little video from some guy who says he's found verified info that GM is making the warranty of the 2.7 powertrain the same as the diesel for 2024 in the half tons, 5 year 100,000 mile

the big block 4-banger just keeps on winning, no issues after 1st 3 years so they give us more power, no issues after the next 2 years with more power so they extend the powertrain warranty...another gm engine legend in the making

will be cool to see that engine marine-ized for inboard jet boat applications, the Ingmar 2.3 ecoboost was a short experiment by sounds of it, not really the motor but ingmar doing crap job of setting up and listening to builders and issues...if someone else gets ahold of the gm power plant and sets it up properly it will make an awesome boat power plant with that output to weight combined with durability, economy and 87 octane etc.

be nice to see crate engines one day too, for vehicle motor swap projects

Hey all, new to forums.

I leased a 2023 GMC Sierra Pro (Graphite edition) 2.7 TurboMAX back in June. LOVING the truck so far. Been reading the forums for a while and finally decided to sign up!

You are gonna love this engine and if driven normally the efficency of every day driving.

Its easy to service too.

It doesn't care what fuel you use it runs great. E15 seems to be a sweet spot.

Keep a clean air filter on it so it can breathe and it will return the love.

this is a question for 4banger and grumpy bear and anyone who wants to answer. i now have 65k miles on my 2.7 and since i have had the truck i have tried every type of oil in this engine trying to reduce its oil consumption. omsoil , mobile 1 quacker state redline and others. i change my oil at 40% on the olm and every time it is not even on the dipstick.i have no visible leaks and have to assume it is burning it. 4banger you said you went back to using the dealer to do your oil and you have no consumption problems anymore, is it still that way. the reasons i ask is because i had the dealer do my last oil change and figured they over filled it because at 40% it was still full, so i had them do it again and checked to make sure it was at the right level and it was. 2nd dealer change and now at 60% and it is still full. so my next question is for grumpy bear, what is the difference from the premium oils i was using to the dealership oil and why did it stop consuming oil

Before I step into a 'Bear Trap' if you could answer a few questions please. One at a time.

Are you saying that from the day it was NEW it has always used oil and now has stopped over the last two changes?

i purchased the truck used with 25k miles, so i have put 40k on it and it has used oil up until i just switched to dealership oil, i know it doesn't make sense.

That's about 13 oil changes and the entire range of oils. No...no sense at all. If you are off the stick, it was using more than a quart in 3K and then zip? I can tell you this. There is nothing healing in 'Dealer Oil". This part is coincidence.

1.) Can I assume you know it was "right" because you verified this with your own eyes?

2.) Did you do the previous changes yourself or hire it done and if hired, by the same shop?

3.) How does the oil smell? Fuel?

Does this motor have the rope type dipstick? It can be hard to see over fills without a tissue touch on new oil.

Yes, I'm fishing   :)

yup no engine light and limp mode to low oil since I switched, just had a heavy tow shift with multiple hunting trips dragging trailer and way faster than I should, so not sure what to say, will this winter when it's really cold and towing for our ice fishing weekends if that stays true as it was brutally cold when this appeared, the temp thing may be a stretch but not sure what else to say

Test 6 went pretty well. Wear control is exceptional.

Used less oil over drain but its apparent that this engine will begin consuming oil around ~5000 miles of use and it seems its a design issue.

At 6000 miles the MPG benefits of Havoline are giving it up, maybe an earlier air filter change would have helped lower oil usage even further.

Lots of rough winter weather and in 4WD on this interval.

The lower ash content Havoline with about 25% Estolide base oils did hold up well. 75% of the oil is GRP III.

I THINK the lower ash content is less easy to be consumed as its oil usage was about 25-30% less than the last two intervals.

Hope this last full test for me is helpful to others running this wonderful mill.  Will go to SyntheticAdvantage TUNER in future if I test it at all.

I missed this when it posted. How? I don't know. Great result! I enjoyed unpacking it. Havoline Pro RS seems to be a winner. 😉

I recently switched oils to Quaker State Full Synthetic 5W30. And this last oil change I noticed a marked improvement on the oil consumption of my 2022 LTD 2.7. Previous oil changes have been Valvoline 5W30 full synthetic, and it would burn between 3/4-1 quart of oil over a ~6,000 mile oil change interval. I would start seeing oil consumption around ~3000 miles in, and top it off every few weeks until my OLM got to 20%.

Well, this last oil change, I ran it to 6200 miles, OLM 18%, i only had to add about 1/4 quart for the entire change. Oil was about half way up the dipstick the morning I changed the oil.

I'm, running the Quaker State again this interval and will see how it does.

I ran a mix of QS 5w30 dexos1 gen 2  and RLI ( Renewable Lubricants inc bio based syn mix 5w20 HD low ash)  used 3/4 qt in 4717 miles.

Currently running Mobil Full Syn 5w30 Dexos1 gen 3  and it went 5046 miles and used 3/4 qt.

This engine is breaking the lubricant at 4000- 5000 miles.  My fuels dilutions are tested via Gas Chromatography and stay below 0.6-0.8% range consistently.  Nitration never above 9 abs units using JOAP method.

Looking at straight RLI biosyn SAE 30 PCMO ( maybe higher ash HD 30)  like HPL are pour point depressed without VII.

RLI has never let me down but it is not licensed for GM Dexos, additive packages are DEXOS approved.  I think RLI is lower cost than HPL and the bio esters are TOUGH.

Most of our L3B 2.7L  engines are using oil and its most likely a sliding wear issue with the mechanical cam sliding motion IMHO.
