Which tonneau. BAKFlip MX4 or Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite?

Recommended Posts

I have the same issue here. Not with the Bakflip but with the website. Seems like if I leave the window open long enough it’ll eventually finishing loading and let me post. Just to type this I had to wait like a minute before I could start typing.

Anyone else with a MX4 for their 19 short bed that has this issue or is it good on yours?

Mine looks goods.  The rods on mine measure 17-5/16 from end to end if that helps.

The only issue I had installing my MX4 was finding the sweet spot between having it far enough aft to have a sufficient water seal vs having the remote tailgate release work.  I had to move it about 1/8” forward for the remote release to work and now I’m not sure the water seal will be that great at the tailgate.

Yeah, I had to move mine a bit closer to the cab too so the tailgate auto closer works. The gate is barely touching the second fin of the three when it closes successfully. When it engaged with all three fins, it would beep and lower back down.

Your knob bracket is in a different spot than mine. Maybe that's what's off.

Yep, I just looked at your pics again.  Mine sits flush against the locking frame.  Looks like yours sits about 1.5-2” below.  That would do it.

I also have issues on desktop. I've been able to identify the issue it seems if the ad loads at the top, I can reply or quote, but if the ad doesn't load, I can't. It also appears some banner ads are wider than the forum on mobile. I've seen that issue on other forums too. Not sure if it is the same web developers or not, but these bugs shouldnt be hard to fix.

Now that you mention it, that's the issue I'm having too. If I leave it, eventually it loads and I can comment normally.

This is still the best truck forum I've been on to date, both in terms of how it's laid out and in terms of the quality of the info and the members' helpfulness.

So I got the new MX4 cover today.

Good news:

1. The knob bracket is in the correct place finally.

2. They now include plastic end caps and prop rod snap holders. I kept the existing rails and slid these new pieces off the new rails and used them. I didn't want to install a third set of rails.

Bad news:

1. The straps on the new cover to hold it open are too short. So I pulled them off the original cover and swapped them.

The company that makes these have zero QA department. It's like they are run by prison inmates who don't give a crap about doing anything correctly. They fix one thing and then screw up another.

I'm finally good to go, but this was a jacked up experience.

Good that they finally sort of made it right. Right enough I guess after you fixed it.

I’d suggest going with another brand next time, but this company makes like half of the big name covers on the market, and even some of the GM ones!
