How do you remove the sunglass tray on the dash?

Recommended Posts

After removing the rubber mat and taking out the only visible screw I am unable to figure out how to remove the plastic tray entirely. Tried prying the sides up with trim tools but am at the point where I may damage the dash.

Any advice?

Bump in case anyone has figured this out.   I'd like to add a Ram mount tough track onto this piece just to do something useful with it, because I never use it for anything.  Everything I want to put it in is either too big to want sliding on the dash, or too small to be seen when it's in there.   Very odd item to me, not sure what GMC was thinking with these.

I have not dug into it there BUT if I did, I would remove the factory stereo (aka screen, bezel, and HVAC controls). That is pretty well documented.

IIRC, the factory amplifier might be in the way of getting a clear view so pull that if needed.  Then, I'd poke my head up and see what is holding it in.

EDIT: 99% chance it's just clips but when messing with things like this, I always like to go with the knowns first.  Use them to figure out the ones I'm not 100% certain on.  An extra 15 minutes can avoid a lot of headaches

I’m thinking of adding the Ram Mount Tough Track as well. Have you done this with your truck yet?

I have not, I'm actually just 95% of the way through selling my 20' for a 21'.  That said there is a company that makes a very nice setup for that area now, but it's pretty spendy and uses the entire tray.  If it was me I still think I'd just remove it, and bolt in a mount track in the narrow slot.   That way there's still some area to use to stuff something into if I wanted.
