Front air dam removal?

Recommended Posts

If you’re wanting more clearance and want to make your truck look taller, why not just lift your truck to avoid having clearance issues and will definitely look taller. IMHO, looks like more energy is wasted on trying to get a look when there’s already a simple solution......

Imo having to go out and buy a lift kit, making an appointment to get it installed, waiting a day or so to get the lift installed wastes more energy than going outside and removing a few screws that should take 20 minutes.

I always believed it to be same height as your rear differential helping not only mpg’s but guidance not to roll over a big rock or something that would easily peel off that cheap factory thin rear diff cover. That being said, i totally get it, it’s more of an illusion but does help on steep inclines, curbs and speed bumps. My yard guy took his off on his K2 and you can definitely see more suspension. He did his for more of an off-road appearance. I think it would help, in some cases with over sized tire rub too.

I lowered my truck and that bottom piece would scrap when exiting driveways so I decided to take off mine which now eliminates the scraping and also looks much cleaner

Took it off last night. Noticed zero difference in MPG on my 2011 and I can’t imagine this will be different. 15 7mm bolts I think. The front was too low with the air dam.

Looks good. I am looking for the piece you have left on there of the air dam with the chrome still attached.

If anyone has taken off the complete front air dam off of a 2018 Z71 or compatible, hit me up. I am looking for the upper piece with the chrome in the center. I would need it shipped possibly unless you are in the Central IL area. Have a good one.

I took my bottom part off over the weekend.  I think it looks WAY better!  Thanks for the inspiration, I would have never thought of it without seeing it here!

The only thing I had to do that I didn't see listed.  There are two of those screws that attach the upper air damn to a bracket.  When you remove the bottom part, then the screws stick down and are visible.  I just pulled the spring nuts and flipped them around so the screws point up now.
