Will the 2020 Silverado still have the 5.3 AFM motor as an option?

Recommended Posts

If it was just to use up old inventory, they are still making the old body style...they could have just used them all there and saved the development and certification money putting it in the T1. The AFM engine is probably cheaper to build so I would expect it to carry on in the lower trims.

The 2019 T1 5.3 is different than the 2019 K2 5.3 slightly.  They even have two different RPO codes.  L82 in the T1 2019+up, and L83 in the 2014-2019 K2.

The 2019 T1 L82 5.3 got a new water pump and revised front cover, updated valve covers with revised integrated PCV from the DFM 5.3 L84, and the deletion of the vacuum pump provisions.

The 2019 K2 L83 V8 got none of those new updates.  Still the same engine from 2014.

The L82 will stay as its part of their 6 engine strategy for T1, and supports the V8 option in the value trim trucks WT/Custom/CustomTB.

The L83 version will be gone after the 2019 K2 old body trucks end production.

There are 3 versions of the 5.3's in the 2019 order guide.

New gen trucks have avaulable in the base trims:

L82         Engine, 5.3L EcoTec3 V8, (355 hp [265 kW] @ 5600 rpm, 383 lb-ft of torque [518 Nm] @ 4100 rpm)

and in the other trims:

L84         Engine, 5.3L EcoTec3 V8, (355 hp [265 kW] @ 5600 rpm, 383 lb-ft of torque [518 Nm] @ 4100 rpm); featuring all-new Dynamic Fuel Management that enables the engine to operate in 17 different patterns between 2 and 8 cylinders, depending on demand, to optimize power delivery and efficiency
