Crank but no Turnover (Ideas?)

Good morning all. Ever so often, on a cold morning it would appear, my truck will crank but it will not turnover. If it sits for a while it will turnover and run fine for days. Then, it will do it again out of the blue. It has been record cold here lately, in Texas, but I am not sure that has anything to do with it. Any thought? 2012 Sierra 1500 4X4. 71,000 miles. The battery is fine and is putting out normal voltage. I appreciate any of your thoughts.

Do you mean it will turn over/crank but won't start/run?

Yes. I am sorry. I am no gear head. I apologize for my ineptness. Hopefully I can get there at some point.

I had an issue similar to that on my 2008.  Turned out to be the fuel pump putting out weird pressures.  Id bring it somewhere and have them check it out with a good scan tool.  Is the check engine light on?

No sir, the check engine light is not on. Did they replace your fuel pump?

Are you capable of fixing it if you find the problem?

Have tools?

This could be an electrical or mechanical problem.

Maybe hard to find.

I agree take it to an auto parts store and have them check for codes. Some will do it for free.

The best is a tech2 scanner. Auto stores don't have them I believe.

If no codes then the next time it happens a fuel pressure check is where I would start. Google it.

Could be the cold.  If I had to guess, Texas might not use any winter blended gasoline (I could be wrong).

Check:
- fuel pressure, free rent a tool at local parts
- check spark, timing light
- check sensors, scanner with truck on not necessarily running or starting

Guys.... I kid you not... there was NO fuel pump fuse in the fuse slot. How in the F does that happen? I bought this truck two months ago and it runs without a fuel pump fuse for two months. I placed a 25A in the slot and it fired right up. Can anyone please tell me how this is possible? I am at a loss.

Sounds like some screwed up short in the wiring and amateur fix. Would have to pull the fuse box and trace wires

They did.  Solved the problem.

Sounds like you got your problem fixed.

your oil pressure sender will also close the fuel pump circuit through the pcm and the pcm fuse.  that's how it has been running so far
