Options for LTZ Colored Bumpers

Recommended Posts

Finally, I’m not the only one who wants to delete the chrome on my LTZ.  First I wanted to have everything color match wrapped the Cajun red tint coat but wraps can’t be color matched and one professional didn’t recommend wrapping the door handles because it wouldn’t last and you have to be careful when power washing.  I have asked quite a few auto body shops about painting and they just told me you can’t paint chrome but one guy finally told me that it is because of the chemical process they put the chrome bumpers through.  Even if you sand it down and use an etch primer the paint will still not adhere to it.  I’m waiting on a quote now to replace the bumpers but after seeing https://www.ecoological.com/bumpershellz.html I think I’ll wait.

I had my front and rear LTZ bumpers wrapped in a white that was close to the factory Summit white.  The shop was not able to wrap the sensors though, he mentioned that it would not hold up over time, so I'm sending the sensors and door handles out to be painted summit white soon.  I may send the lower chrome skid plate too.

Did you end up doing anything to your chrome? I am considering purchasing the ecological bumpershellz

I called around several shops in houston about what to do. The cheapest option is sandblast and powdercoat black.  That would also be pretty heavy duty.  There is a place in south houston that does color matched spray kevlar.  That was gonna be about $1000.   It would be kinda rough like bedliner though.  Not sure if that would be cool or lame.  Im interested in the bumper shellz too.  I hate these chrome bumpers.  There is a shop on craigslist in Houston that sells primered bumpers for about $300 each.
