StabiltraK and Steering Assist is Reduced Drive with Care

Recommended Posts

New user - don't mean to beat old horse but trying to understand this problem with my 2017 GMC Sierra: Today 2/24/19 clear but cold weather 25 degrees, driving down the road with "Cruise Control" on and all of a sudden my cruise kicks off and I see this message "Stabiltrak" asking to disable with the icon of skidding on the dash and then it goes away and i try to use cruise again and of course it works for about 15 seconds then the message of Stabiltrak comes again...  Whatever I pull over and turn off vehicle for about 1 minute and try to look up code on my phone... Nothing useful at the time so I continue my 50 mile venture and after about 15 miles I try to use Cruise again and WOW it works but now I get the Message "Steering Assist is Reduced Drive with Care, like the system turned off the Stabiltrak error and now said hey good luck on any traction control measures.

Can anyone tell me what is going on here as tomorrow I head on a 1400 trek across 4 states for work...  My vehicle has approx. 60,000 miles and i have had not issue to date.  No modification to the truck at all - standard SLT features...

Thank you.

I have read this to in the Forms but where do you start - This part about taking apart the upper part of the dash and looking for grounding wires on both drivers side and passenger side seem like we are searching for gremlins??  Any pics of how to do this and what grounds may need to be tightened?

Start with the battery, they are notorious for having a very short life. If you have a cell that is bad, they are garbage. Also, welcome to the site!!!

How about you see what code is stored in history before you go off on a wild goose chase. Could be anything, steering wheel position sensor, low brake fluid warning, intermittent wheel speed signal etc etc.Right away your pulling the dash apart and checking grounds and replacing the battery.

I just received a message that says .... steering assist reduced drive with caution. My 2017 GMC SIERRA was stuck in the snow. I’m not sure if all the action of taking the truck from drive and reverse or the turning of the steering wheel caused this. My stabilatrak, traction control, and brake lights were on as well, but eventually went out.Can anyone give me any insight?
