Shocks vs Springs for Better Ride

Recommended Posts

To the OP, what wheel and tire package do you have? Air pressure?

You say you don't want to haul heavy loads, how much DO you want to be able to haul?

There are options, $1500 will be tough though.

I certainly feel the front of the truck is "over sprung". There is no reason for the front springs to be so damn firm, in my opinion. I read in this forum that the front springs are in the 725-750 lb range, I assume that's a crew cab.  I think some custom coilovers will help you out and if you wanted you could do Sulastic rear shackles. Perhaps a deaver mini pack? That would drop your payload to the sub 1000lb mark though. Popular for off-roaders but I'm sure there might be an option for you if you're willing to spend more.

Most coilovers come with a 650-700lb front springs and I'm looking to do some with 650s or maybe 600.  With your truck due to its light weight, 550 would probably be the ticket.
