HIGH OUTPUT ALTERNATOR

Recommended Posts

I HAVE AN INVERTER THAT I GOING TO INSTALL IN MY TRUCK, IT IS A 1000 WATT INVERTER. THEY RECOMMEND THAT EITHER YOU HAVE FOUR BATTERIES OR A HEAVY DUTY ALTERNATOR. WELL WE ALL KNOW YOU CANT FIT ANOTHER BATTERY UNDER THERE ANYWAY. SO I WAS LOOKING AT AN ALTERNATOR. I FOUND THIS ONE ON THIS WEBSITE.http://www.4alterstart.com/pages/store/skudetail.nhtml?profile=highoutputalternators&uid=10494&catuid=10013&returnURL=http%3A//www.4alterstart.com/highoutputalternators DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE IN THIS?

NO REASON TO YELL. Please turn off the cap lock.

A 1000w inverter will pull 100 amps. The alt you pointed to clames 105 at idle. So you should be ok. The problem with pulling that much current ftom an alt is heat. The diodes and regulator overheat. Keep your factory alt handy while your at the lake loading up the new alt. It could be what gets you home.

The inverter will also overheat. Keep it vented.

Run large wires, 0 or bigger if you run it far. Also consider increasing the wire running from the alt to battery. If you mount the inverter far from the alt/bat you will probably need to add a battery at the inverter.

I have a 1000 watt inverter installed in my camping trailer, and it kills the 2 deep cycle batteries pretty fast (depending on what I am running off the inverter) but the batteries in the trailer arent being constantly re-charged like in the truck. I also have a 300 watt inverter in my truck, and I find 300 watts is plenty for anything I need to run in my truck plus it has 2 outlets. What do you need all that power for?? A 1000 watt is powerful enough to run a microwave oven!

depending on how much power you are running. the stock 105 amp should be fine.

1000 watts = 100 amps@ 12v or 10 @110 aprx.

That doesn't mean that you will use 1000 watts all the time.

A notebook computer only uses 60 - 90 watts of power max.

.6 to .9 amps @110 and 6 to 9 amps @ 12v.

A microwave takes 600 -1000 watts.

Volts * amps = watts
