2019 RST with IOS Infotainment system, Nav upgrade...

Recommended Posts

As the title says, I'm looking to add internal (SD Card) Navigation to my 8" RPO "IOS" radio.

The Card Kit, GM part number 84531832 is available and is around $400 with 1/2 hour shop labor to add it to the database and register into the radio system.

While I realize that I can simply do the Apple CarPlay thing, I would like to have it integrated with the system via the SD card slot.

Has anyone successfully done this upgrade already?

Hate to be the first (guinea pig).

Thanks in advance...

Bill.

Bill, I may be mistaken, but can the IOS unit be upgraded? Here is a list of the units available for the 2019 Trucks.

IOR Audio system, 7" diagonal GMC Infotainment System, includes multi-touch display, AM/FM stereo, includes Bluetooth streaming audio for music and most phones; featuring Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability for compatible phones

IOS Audio system, 8" diagonal GMC Infotainment System, includes multi-touch display, AM/FM/SiriusXM stereo, Bluetooth streaming audio for music and most phones, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability for compatible phones, advanced voice recognition, in-vehicle apps, personalized profiles for infotainment and vehicle settings

IOT Audio system, 8" diagonal GMC Infotainment System with Navigation, includes multi-touch display, AM/FM/SiriusXM stereo, Bluetooth streaming audio for music and most phones, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability for compatible phones, advanced voice recognition, in-vehicle apps, personalized profiles for infotainment and vehicle settings. Includes greater memory.

I would like to know if the upgrade you are getting is just adding a SD card reader or the full Navigation installation.

I did this upgrade on my I0S radio, in my 19 trail boss. The kit comes with the card and a verification number. I programmed the radio and cluster myself cause that's what I do. The card becomes married to your vehicle and wont work on another. Called tech line with verification number  and then they alter the programming on the SPS side, so if your radio or cluster is ever programmed again in the future, it knows you have the upgrade. It's kinda irritating to have a setup ready to fly navigation and it not being there when I bought the truck, o well, it has it now, and I'd do it again. If you can't do the programming yourself, I'd expect to be charged at least an hour of labor at your GM dealer

So once you are done you don't have to leave the SD card in correct?  It's just used to program the radio and then you are done with it.  The Nav that is installed is it Google Navigation, WAZE, OnStar or anything like that?  Can you tell where they are getting their maps and directions from?  I am think about doing this potentially as I use NAV alot and thought it was installed too - not having to hookup or have your phone all the time will help and be more clean.

Card stays in the slot. Believe the software is made by Telenav. Traffic is from Onstar.

Do you have a write up on how you programmed it yourself?

For the most part, if you don't have access to GMGlobalconnect , TIS, or service programming contained in it along with a MDI (1 or 2) , you wont be able to do the programming for the GM card kit. In the kit package, i found nothing stating that programming labor was included with the kit. It does have a verification code the person programming will need to call tech line and set things up before programming it.

Just had Nav installed yesterday. 2019 RST with IOS radio. Truck came with SD slot in center console. 45 min at the dealer. Works great. The nice lady I spoke with at GM tech said it would only work with IOT radio. Little disapointing the Tech folks are not up to speed on their own product.

you don't happen to live in dallas do you. dealer is telling me this can't be done and i'd rather not buy the sd card and have them not be able to figure out how to do it.

I’m in Houston and had mine added last week. You can’t do it yourself - 99.9% of people on here do not have an MDI or Tech Membership - so dealer it is. Takes 30-45 minutes, most of that time is taken to reprogram your cluster so it displays Nav information there. Your dealer CAN do it, they most likely haven’t done one yet. Mine was the first for this dealership also, and it still only took 45 mins.

Where in Houston did you have it installed?

Since you seem to have a good handle on this, thought I would ask is it possible to upgrade from IOR to IOS (hardware or software)?  I got stuck with the IOR model (doesn't even have the climate control app) and wanted to get it up to the IOS version at least so I could use the app interface to add stuff as I wanted.  Thanks.
