2019 Trail Boss LT brake noise

Recommended Posts

I’m driving a 2019 Silverado 1500 LTZ. My parents drove it last year, went through a set on brake pads on the front axle in 11k miles. Dealership had it a month trying to fix the dragging/squalling issue. Threw all kinds of parts at it, no dice. Mine acts up fairly randomly. It can go days without making a sound and the next day it honks like a damn goose when I barely touch the brake. Squalls without touching the brakes. I believe there’s a software/computer issue they’ve yet to figure out. And now my parents’ 2020 is doing the same thing. Supposed to go to the dealership soon but they’re down a tech due to Covid. We shall see what they’ve come up with as they say there’s some new service bulletin out to fix this. I’m not holding my breath. This is something people shouldn’t be told they have to live with. I agree with those who’ve shared feelings that GM really have gone downhill. My ‘18 had its troubles, to be sure, but they were of the rattles and squeaks of the body variety, not something crucial like brakes.

Same Issue with my 2019 1500 Silverado Crew Cab. Weather doesn't seem to make a difference but I notice it most at very low speeds. Mine started about 22K. Tried putting antiseize on the back of the brake pads and caliper pins. I also cleaned off a good amount of brake dust built up by the brake hardware. This did seem to stop the squeal for a few days but then it came back as bad as ever.

I think I share the same sentiments as every one else here that it is very annoying for a brand new truck. I have never had another vehicle that would do this so regularly. The only other time I have had a vehicle squeak when I stopped was when the rotors were wet...but that was very rare and went away after a couple of stops. This happens almost at least once EVERY time I drive my truck!

When I had the calipers apart, my brake pads appear to barely be worn. I think my service department is such a joke that I would rather just try new brake pads myself. I usually buy OEM parts, but I might look around for a better brake pad from an aftermarket supplier in this instance.

I bought my AT4 in March of 2019.  Since then I’ve probably had about 10k out of 40k miles of squeal free driving.  Like y’all, the dealership can never find an issue.  The problem was temporarily resolved by scuffing the brake pads.  It’s a bunch of ****** to drive a new truck that sounds like a beat up Ford used on a ranch.  My wife keeps telling me to buy a new AT4, to

which I reply why the **** would i want to buy another GM.  It’s a damn shame GM can’t figure out how to resolve a brake issue.

I have had the same issue with a 2019 LT.  started at around 4500 miles.  loud squeaks when lightly applying brakes at slow speeds.  generally when brakes are cold.  took it to the dealer right away and got the same response as others here (rust build up).  not sure how the rust builds that fast in just a couple hours?  Dealer didn't do anything at that time.  Took it back a 2nd time some weeks later to make another attempt at fixing this.  dealer was unable to replicate, or so they said.  but they did lube calibers.  this didn't help at all.  I took the truck back a 3rd time for the brake recalls issued by GM.  as part of that recall, they replaced brake pads.  Surprise, the squeak under these conditions stopped!!!   3 days later, brakes are now making a fog horn type noise, but not when applying brakes.  they do that when beginning to roll away from a stop.  again, this happens mostly when cold, and at speeds under 5mph.  I had hoped this would disappear on its own, but it got worse.  I took the truck back a 4th time to the dealer for this, was given the same indication as the first couple times that there was rust build up causing this and that I needed to drive it more.  It made the noise that same day when leaving the dealer.  this continued to get worse, to the point that I could drive it any distance, and stop for about 2 minutes and then replicate it.  so I opened a case with Chevrolet this time for the issue, and they arranged for a 5th appointment to take the truck to the dealer.  Dealer had the truck for 15 days.  I was in contact with the Chevrolet SR. agent on my case and requested that they help me get out of this truck and into something different, as I have lost complete faith in this truck.  I buy a truck and keep it for 10-20 years, and so this one was expected to do the same, but I have no faith that it will.   got it back about a week ago, and they said they replaced the rear brake calipers, and adjusted return springs/clips on the front brakes.  Surprise again!  brakes were completely silent no matter the condition.  Drove the truck for 4 days with absolutely no noise at all.  I had hopes this would fix it.  on day 5 and after about 100 miles, the brake squeal is back.  fog horn noise is gone and we are back to the issue prior to that, squealing under light brake when cold and at slow speeds.  I have owned this truck for almost 2 years, only have 16000 miles on it, and have had the brake noise issue for over 10K of those miles.  so now I am faced with a 6th visit to the dealer for this same issue.    I have no answers yet from GM on whether they can honor my request to get out of this truck.  but will continue to push for that as a final solution, since it seems nothing they do will fix the brake noises.

My 2019 trail boss makes the same noise. Taking It back in to the dealer tomorrow. They changed the brake pads few months back, still makes the noise , hopefully they will find what’s wrong. It’s made a squealing noise every since I’ve owned it, they have never found the issue. Will let you know if they find something.

Hello...I am new to the Silverado world and have recently purchased a 2019 Silverado 1500 Z71 Trail Boss.  I am having the same issues as you all have mentioned.  This article about a recall for 2014-2018 models sounds a whole lot like the same issue.  I'm headed to the dealership in a few days...maybe we can find a fix!

I got tired of waiting on GM & the dealerships.  I paid to have the brakes replaced.  Since replacing the pads, the truck is quiet.  I hear a small squeal when I back up in the morning when there is moisture on the brakes but then it’s gone for the day.

Now I’m waiting to trade in the AT4 once my Ram TRX arrives in the next few weeks.

Hey all, new to the forum here, but have lurked since I got my new 2021 Silverado RST 6.2L in June. I've noticed for the past few weeks, occasionally the brakes will make this grinding/vibrating sound. It feels like it's almost coming from underneath the rear passenger seat. Some days it'll do it, some days it won't. I've had the pads looked at and nothing is stuck on them. The noise is not a squeak or squeal. It's a deep vibration/grumbling sound when the brakes are applied. I thought GM had this issue fixed, as I read a similar issue was happening to older models. Anyone else have this issue and/or found the fix? I'm at the point of calling the dealer, but just wanted to check in here for any tips/tricks prior to calling them. Thanks!

I know this is an older topic, but wondering if anyone has had any luck with GM? I have a 2021 Silverado Custom with 42k km (🍁) that started getting the brake squeal a few months ago. I recently had it in for service at the dealership and they told me there is nothing that can be done. They said it's the pad compound GM is using now and they get complaints about squealing brakes regularly and there is no fix. I saw the 2500/3500s had a recall for brake pad noise, but the 1500's aren't covered under that. The dealership cleaned the pads and they started squealing right away. I called GM Canada and they basically told me since brakes are a wear item, there is no warranty or obligation to fix/ replace them. I'm shopping for new pads, hoping it will solve it, but it's bs that I need to put brand new brake pads on a truck that isn't even 2 years old.

HI, am having issues with one of  the brakes on my TB dragging/squalling. Took to dealer and they determined it was the left rear making the noise, said that there was dust on rotors/pads. They decided to change pads on back brakes as a place to start. Had them done last Thursday. Still making noise, the colder it is the louder the noise. When first starting out from setting for a short period of time if you apply slight pressure to brakes it makes it all the time. Starting to get really annoying when I take off from stop sign or parking lot and my new truck makes a god awful noise and everyone turns and stares to see where it is coming from. Called dealer the day after they replaced pads and they basically said that they were waiting on someone else having the same problem and maybe GM would issue a bulletin  on what the fix is. I'm leaning toward a problem with the calipers or rotor but haven't got dealer convinced of that yet. Anyone else having any such problem?

So mine sounds like a city bus at a slow speed brake apply to stopped.  It only does it after I go down a country road.  If I blow the right front caliper out with compressed air it goes away.  I blow it out for less than 10 seconds and it fixes it?
