Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo 3 vs ?

Let me start by apologizing for another tire thread. I’m on the road most of the time but would like to be prepared for wet, snow, and occasionally light off road use. I’ve been recommended these tires enough that I feel like they are getting a spiff for pushing them. I also don’t want a ton of noise. I know I’m looking for a unicorn but want the best of all options. was caught between these, Toyo Open Country A/T 2, BFG KO2s, and Falken Wildpeak. I pull a small lawn trailer a couple of days per week as well.

Falken Wildpeak AT3W, excellent wet traction. I put 120 miles a day or so on these. They are about half way through their 60k life and are on track to last to 60k. Lighter than KO2s, better offroad traction too. Very good dry traction if you are a more spirited driver.

What size tire do you want?

I have been quite impressed with the factory tire that came on my 2017. Goodyear Wrangler Fortitude.

I do a lot of highway driving, but in Florida, rainy season is a critical time for tires. They did exceptionally well. Off-road, they do fine. I'm not wheeling it or hitting mud holes. Works well on unmaintained boat launch ramps too. These tires are a little noisier than the Goodyear LS-2 and the Continentals I had on my '14. But those were a different class of tire. They are not overly noisy by any means.

The Revo 3's in that GM stock size are P265/65R-18.  The "P" (passenger rated) ones ride softer and smoother than the typical "LT" load range E rated 10-ply truck tires, and the P ones get better fuel mileage as well, as they are 10+ pounds lighter on each tire.  Another difference is the max tire pressure on the "P" tires in this size is usually 44psi (and the TPMS sensors in your truck are calibrated to that) and the max pressure in the "LT" ones is 80psi.  

 

I have about 1000 miles on a set of new Revo 3's in that size.  The Revo's 3's in that size come with outlined white letters on one side, but you have them mounted with the blackwall side out if you want.  Ride, noise, and fuel mileage so far seem to be fairly comparable to the factory stock Bridgestone Dueler A/T RH-S, which were more of a highway-type of tread.  The RH-S's were excellent in the snow and ice (for an all-terrain tire, instead of a winter-specific tire like a Blizzak), and so far in the limited snow here this winter since I bought them, the Revo 3's seem to be comparable on that as well.  They say the Revo 3's meet the snowflake-symbol requirement for snow and ice rating, but Bridgestone doesn't mark them as such, because they don't want to take away from their Blizzak (dedicated winter only tire) tire sales.   

 

If I plowed snow using a year-round tire or if I were going to more of a mud-terrain type of tread for an all-terrain tire, I would go with the Goodyear Wrangler DuraTracs, but they are noisier than the Revo 3's.  The BfG K02's are good, but I keep hearing that they don't last very long and they are prone to hydroplane on pavement in the rain.  If I had more offroad use than highway miles, I would go with the BfG KM3 mud-terrain tires.

The Revo 3 is an excellent all around tire.  Much improved in wet, snow, off road and wear over the previous Revo 2.  I think they look good, but that is highly subjective.  In my line of work I have driven on many many A/T tires in different categories and the Revo 3 is near the top of the list.  I would put them ahead of the Falkens, Toyos, Contis, etc and a lot of others that get recommended on here.  They would be on par with the KO2 in a lot of areas, but like mentioned the Revo 3 comes in P metric sizes which are lighter and more appropriate for a 1/2 ton truck.

 

Side note, they do not actually meet the test requirements for the 3 peak mountain snowflake symbol, but are pretty close.  The reason to keep that off because of Blizzak is not true.

Agreed! I don't know why the stock Goodyear's get so much hate. I have the Fortitude HT's and they have been much better in snow, rain, and overall city and highway driving than the Nitto Terra Grapplers on my last truck. They're not half bad off-road either for my occasional use when hunting, camping, etc. However, I am considering replacing them with an AT tire once they wear out and hoping to find one that's just as good as these on-road but more confidence inspiring off-road. It's like trying to find the holy grail of truck tires.

What do you think of the Revo 3 in comparison to the RH-S (I have those now)? I noticed on Tire Rack, Revo 3 appears to be better. On Bridgestone's site, RH-S looks slightly better on their scale.

I'm a fan of Cooper tires. I have 50,000 miles on a set of AT3's and they did fine on some hardcore BLM roads with mud and snow . They are quiet and well mannered on the street, even E rated. I've managed to get out of some serious central Montana goose $hit slick mud- 7 miles of it with just the AT3's.

I just took them off and put ST/Maxx's (LT275/70R18- 33.3") on the truck.

I've had ST/Maxx's before on a Tacoma, and they are really a hell of a great tire. Spendy, but they ride as well as AT3's on the street and they are PHENOMENAL in the snow and offroad. I will be running the ST/Maxx's from October-May, then swap my AT3's back on for late spring/summer.

Cooper tires do not last long down here in the Central Florida heat. I tried 2 sets of Discoverer HT on a previous truck and they melted down within 30k and started handling like crap. I think their rubber compound doesn't do well with pavement temps here.

I would recommend chalk testing to insure proper wear. I run my tire at 38psi, but hauling or towing I inflate the rears to 55psi and the fronts to 45psi. Off road I drop them down to 28 and 30 rear. Tires are bloody expensive so you might as well get every mm of rubber out of them. 

 

Chalk testing tells the true story of how any tire will wear, and where your street psi should be. 

 

My off road XJ like the BFG Mud terrains at 30psi!
