The "Catch Can" Explained - By Elite Engineering

Recommended Posts

Ok, so, I'm a Systems Engineer and not an automotive guy in the least, short of doing whatever maintenance I can myself to learn and save money, and I could use some help selecting the correct EE X-2.

Brand new 2016 Silverado 1500 LT Z71 with just over 1,200 miles on it. Now I know Chevy is GM, and I know I have the 5.3L engine, but I can't make heads or tails on the available models so I'm just wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

TIA

Order the single valve kit for GM truck LS V8 2014+. Provide your engine details in the comments when ordering.

martha3065 is correct. And we also completely redesigned our E2 Catch Can to improve it's overall performance. So either Catch Can, our new EE Catch Can, or the ever popular E2-X. They are both great choices.

Thank you both! I guess my next question is regarding the single versus dual valve. Is one "better" than the other or recommended more than the other?

I cannot believe how much skanky fluid the catch can filters out. It looks like "I went to Mexico and drank the water" diarrhea juice. I gotta figure out what hose barb fitting I can screw into the drain valve so I can drain the "next day toilet water after cheap Mexican restaurant" fluid down into a vinyl tube and out the bottom of the truck. Would rather drain it out on WalMart's parking lot vs on the vacant battery tray. lol

Im going to install a catch can in line of my gas tube on my AR-15. By filtering out the gas you can eliminate build up in your AR's receiver. You NEED this on you AR-15.

Some engines will have more condensation sludge than others, and it also has to do a lot with how long the engine is operated each time. I find more of that crud in my catch cans during cooler weather, not so much in summer.

I kept things simple. A Elite E2 can with all fittings for my 2006 Cadillac CTS 3.6L was $180 delivered. I think price went up a little since I got mine. Does a fantastic job on that motor. The 3.6L from that time frame has a noted history of being an "oil burner". Well, it really isn't. My E2 can captures roughly 1 oz of oil every 100 miles. The PCV port design and location is the problem, not the motor. Because of the PCV setup, it almost encourages oil to go thru the PCV. Well, I can't do anything about the design, but I sure did stop the mess from getting thru to the intake.

I already had a Conceptual Polymer standard and HE versions hooked in series on my pickup that have done a fantastic job also, so not motivated to replace them with an E2, but the E2 is a solid performer and was a better bang for the buck this go around compared to when I bought the CP setup.

Anyone sitting on the fence about getting an E2 can for their ride, jump off the fence and do it. One of the best investments of your dollars.

One of the reasons I did not ever grow fond of the M-16 when I did my 7 years with Uncle. I much preferred the M-14, FN-FAL, and others. Some real nasty junk on those M-16 bolts and carriers. The catch can idea might have been a good one! LOL

Get a piston driven AR....problem solved!

Lol.... I have a Sig 516. Its piston driven. I got it pretty much for that reason. Ya know, so it doesn't "crap where it eats," if you will. However the direct impingement models work fine as well, no catch can needed lol, I'm just poking fun at everyone saying that I "need" a catch can.
