The "Catch Can" Explained - By Elite Engineering

I LOVED my E2-X Elite Engineering Catch Can until it started leaking terribly from the drain hole. I've ensured that the valve is closed and it still leaks. Nice mess in my engine bay and on various components down the path to the ground. I emailed Elite Engineering tonight, so I hope they stand behind their product and swap it out for a new one. This thing isn't even a year old, either.

On a good note, your E2-X Catch Can sounds like it's working great and catching a lot of oil and keeping it out of your intake.  But on a bad note, it sounds like the ball valve on the bottom drain may be faulty.  Because you already have your Catch Can plumbed and in-place, the easiest solution would be to send you a replacement bottom ball valve.  It's an easy thread out, and thread in solution.  We'll test one before we ship it, we can ship you a replacement via. USPS Priority Mail right away.

Im going to order a catch can next week for my 14 5.3.  I noticed most kits come with the

rubber hose. Looks like it slips onto the engine (pvc) side port. My question is,where can

you get extra GM ends that are on both ends of the pcv line? The ends that clip on.

Thanks

We have been thinking about adding these OEM fittings as a standard option to our GM Truck Catch Can kits.  Let us know if you think this would be an advantage.

Thanks!

Well I purchased one of your competitors systems already but I can assure you it would sway people on the fence your way. Makes it look OEM and removal for dealer visits is a breeze ?. Personally,  I feel there are only 3 cans to even consider and yours fits nicely in that category.

Folks that have factory warranty left on their trucks and want to install a catch can I strongly suggest you send a email by following this link.

Contact GMC

Okay guys and gals...I did just that, contacted GM and here (as of this morning 15 Nov 2018) was their reply:

Thank you contacting GMC Customer Assistance Center.  We appreciate the time you have taken to write us with regard to your inquiry.  We understand that you would like to know if installing oil catch can to your vehicle will cause an issue or will void your warranty.

Please be advice all vehicles released from the assembly plant are inspected to ensure they comply with government specifications, as well as standards established by the Engineering Department.  GMC does not recommend modifying a car or truck after it has left the assembly plant.

Changes may adversely affect the vehicle and possibly result in operational problems.  Modifying the vehicle could void the manufacturer's warranty on specific items covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.  For further support, please consult your local dealer.  GMC established the dealership’s parts department as a comprehensive resource for all parts information concerning pricing, availability, and compatibility.

We hope this information has been helpful to you.

If you should need to contact us in the future, please call our GMC Customer Assistance Center at 1-866-790-5600.  Customer Relationship Specialists are available Monday through Saturday from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Eastern Time.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact GMC.

So read that as you will, I would certainly REMOVE mine prior to any dealership visit!

So GM remains passive aggressive, 'We will not take a stand but word it as if we did'; political blah, blah, blah...….

             Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act

Is there a particular reason readers and contributors to forums like to ignore that this LAW exist?

Unless THEY can PROVE that a device was responsible for the defect/condition/failure in question they MUST repair everything covered under the warranty as if it was not there.

Do people just love pain and ignorance that much? Seriously. How many times does this need to be posted?

Hey Grumpy...I was simply posting what those passive aggressive folks replied to my question. I’ve read darn near every post on the catch can debate. Several have asked about warranty being voided. I never saw anything directly from GM so I posted what they replied to me as fact. I didn’t just reply saying well it shouldn’t or depends on the dealership or the MM act has you covered. I posted factual information for people to use as they see fit. I don’t have the deep pockets to fight GM by assuming the MM act has me covered. I would like to think I’m safe but I would rather KNOW I’m safe and just remove the can before a visit. You know as well as I do that service managers change and just because Dealer A is good with it today doesn’t mean they will be good with it tomorrow. So to answer your question, it will probably get posted again and again and again. Some people are new to this whole catch can thing others are very up to speed and have already made up their minds. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving ?

This is a no brainer!

It would make installation so much easier, and have an OEM look.

I took the fittings from my OEM hoses, which I removed to install my CAI (good thing I saved them) and installed them on some nylon braided hose I purchased on Amazon.

It would be nice to cut the cost on your braided hoses or give longer lengths for user errors like me!:D

After re-installing the check valves the correct way, my can has collected some very nasty grime...almost looks like mud!

I'll be sending in a sample next week along with my oil since it's time to change the oil before it gets too cold.

Time to flush my brake fluid as well...I wonder if BlkStn Labs can analyze that?

So glad I installed the can and would do it again.

As for any warranty issues, I could give a flying dipstick what they say!

Grumpy is correct, about the Moss Warranty Act.

If anything the can will help to give your motor higher mileage before having to make repairs, which GM does not like.

See there's the problem. It isn't useful at all. GM didn't take a stand because they CAN"T. They veiled a threat based on public ignorance of the law.

Play poker? Bluffing? Call them on it. What people are missing, including you, is...it isn't on YOU to prove anything. It's on them. They bear the cost of that proof and it gets expensive for them in a hurry.

Okay, no I don’t play poker ? I won’t wager what I can’t afford to lose...so I’ll just keep taking my catch can off when I visit the dealership. I do appreciate your advice though.
