The "Catch Can" Explained - By Elite Engineering

Recommended Posts

Sent some pics to Elite, and sure enough user error, I have one of the check valves on the inlet line. I wonder if this causes the hiss/whistling sound...I'll find out.

Fast response and good CS after the sale...you don't get that very often now a days!

Once the rain decides to stop and I switch the lines, I'll give another update on my collection.

Thanks Steve for your advice/CS!

Thanks for your order this morning. We'll get this packaged and shipped via. FedEx today.

My  E2-X Catch Can "Kit" is being delivered today. I have an AIRAID MIT and my question pertains the the passenger side PVC hose that connects to the MIT before the throttle body. Since I am installing the hose between the two PVC breathers that comes with the kit and the hose from the CSS to the downstream barbed fitting on the MIT, what do I now do with the passenger side PVC barbed fitting, cap it? It's picture #3 on the attachment.

Had my basic Elite can on my 2018 now for 1500 miles. Checked it for the first time after 300 and it was maybe 1/10 full. Checked it this time after 1200 miles and it was 1/4 - 1/3rd full, looked like nothing but oil, no water that I could tell. It was a similar story when I had the can on my 2014 except that on my 14 I had it installed near the front of the truck and got a lot of water, this time it's back by the firewall, no more water.

I see you only have a single valve catch can, but you still connected the valve covers together instead of running them to the intake tube. I thought you could only connect the valve covers together if you were using a dual valve catch can. Also . So could you connect the valve covers together even without a catch can? Either way with or without a catch can , wouldn't that create allot more pressure and work the pcv valve more? Would that create a flow restriction due to only being able to evaluate crank case pressure through the pcv valve and nothing through the valve covers? Your picture shows the type of setup I was thinking about but I didn't see any of the manufactures of catch cans connect the valve covers using a single valve setup?

He has the valve covers connected because he has the Clean Side Separator installed in the Oil Fill location.

Maybe I missed it but does Elite have a kit for the 2019 5.3’s and 6.2’s?  From the pictures I’ve seen, the engine compartment is completely reconfigured, and I don’t see an obvious install location for the can.

The hydraulic vacuum booster has been replaced by an electronic booster, the old spare battery location now has the air box in its place and overall, the engine compartment looks much tighter.

This is not an issue for me as I have a can installed in my 2018 Denali, but just curious.

so is $300+ the norm for such a basic device?

  • 3 weeks later...

I LOVED my E2-X Elite Engineering Catch Can until it started leaking terribly from the drain hole. I've ensured that the valve is closed and it still leaks. Nice mess in my engine bay and on various components down the path to the ground. I emailed Elite Engineering tonight, so I hope they stand behind their product and swap it out for a new one. This thing isn't even a year old, either.
