The "Catch Can" Explained - By Elite Engineering

Recommended Posts

The Clean Side Separator (CSS), when installed, replaces your stock Oil Fill Cap. The clean-side separator (CSS) completes any Catch Can installation by diverting clean, or fresh incoming air through the unit that replaces the oil fill cap. It has internal coalescing media designed to trap and contain oil that is part of the crankcase vapors when flow is momentarily “back flowing” with a single outlet system or the OEM PCV system. This retains a closed system and 100% MAF metered air as well as is emissions compliant.

We have offered the one-way check valves as an option for our systems for some time, it comes standard with the E2-X "Kits". They splice into the Catch Can Exit side, and flow away from the Catch Can. This is to prevent any back flow through the PCV system and the Catch Can itself.

In addition, it allows the use of 2 separate evacuation suction sources. The intake manifold when (NA) at idle, cruise, and deceleration, and then switches to the area just upstream of the TB when accelerating and at WOT when there is no intake manifold vacuum present due to reversion pulses from cam lobe overlap.

These will automatically open and close as needed to always use the strongest suction source.
I addition, GM and others now use them in most new car PCV systems to prevent back-flow. ALL GDI LT and LT4 based V8 engines now come standard from the factory with them.

disregard

Here's a video that covers it all, for the single exit, just ignore the 2nd exit port connection from this video:

I did READ many pages in this thread. I do know know that I want an elite, from what I've gathered there are different versions. Like the E2 or the E2x I know I don't need a dual port can Edited by hondarider94

Order the E2 with single port. When you go into the ordering portion of their website, it'll ask you single or dual. Also, they'll ask you for which options. I highly recommend you get the check valve and that's it; unless you want steel braided lines but that's for looks only. It comes with the mounting hardware and extra O rings for the can too. The E2X is fine too but all it is is a larger can to hold more before draining and I believe maybe an extra chamber but for all intents and purposes, just a larger E2 without the ability to split the can halves. I'm not sure that it comes with only single port though and it has a drain valve. The E2 can separates for draining and it can be cleaned easily because of that.

I have a E2x that came with a CSCC that's not used on my 6.2. Can is single in single out. I have whistling at idle and appears to be hose collapsing from the vacuum. Is this normal? The can is mounted forward for ease of emptying and adding oil to the engine during oil changes.

You will just need a higher quality hose to handle the vacuum and they should not collapse. None of the hose UPR sells will collapse as we've upgraded all

our hoses to withstand vacuum, heat, and any type of fluids without any problems.

It's obviously not a hose Elite sends out with their products? They send out High Quality hoses it's not collapsing you would probably need a vise grips wrench to pinch the USA made hose?

It shouldn't be, as we only use GM's recommended SAE J30R7 Fuel Line Hose (made in the USA), for all our Catch Cans.
