Terrible Feature - Truck Shuts Off On It's Own?!?!

Yep check the gas cap that’ll solve the problem. Lol

 

I have the same issue. But I just can’t find the gas cap to tighten it. Lol

 

 I need the vehicle to stay unning maybe not as long as the OP but it seems like mine shuts off after about ten minutes every time. I’ve never tried leaving it running with remote in vehicle as I don’t sleep in mine.

whose 2019 came with gas cap?.....mine certainly didnt

2020 owners manual says:

 

If the vehicle is left parked and running with the RKE transmitter outside the vehicle, it will continue to run for up to half an hour. 

 

If the vehicle is left parked and running with the RKE transmitter inside the vehicle, it will continue to run for up to an hour.

 

The vehicle could turn off sooner if it is parked on a hill, due to lack of available fuel.

 

The timer will reset if the vehicle is taken out of P (Park) while it is running. 

 

 

What it doesn't say is what happens if it's in Neutral with the parking brake on...??? 

Does it mean that the timer doesn't run if it's not in park?

Anybody that needs/want it to idle longer tried that?

Over the past two decades, state legislatures have enacted various forms of legislation to minimize vehicle idling. Nine states—Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Texas and Vermont—and Washington, D.C., limit idling to between three and five minutes for most vehicles. Another 14 states limit idling for certain vehicles, such as school buses, state-owned vehicles or vehicles over 10,001 pounds. 

Further, 18 states have grants, loans, tax credits or pilot programs to provide incentivizes for adopting idle reduction technologies. Those states are Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Vermont. Colorado, Maryland, Massachusetts and Vermont are currently the only four states that both offer incentives for IRT adoption and limit idling for most vehicles. Colorado goes one step further with its idle reduction program—a collaboration between federal, state and local governments to improve air quality by minimizing idling.

Really sucks for me as I'll leave the truck idling for several hours at a time if headlights are needed to provide jobsite lighting.  I'll be elbow deep in "work" and the damn thing just goes off.  I need to go over to truck and restart every 10 - 15 minutes which is a pain in the ass.  I won't even get into how bad it is when I have to sleep in the truck while on a remote jobsite.  It gets cold very quickly when it shuts off....

Our Corvettes will do this also it’s a safety feature also. Last year an elderly couple pulled there Cadillac into there attached garage and because it was push button start and they were hard of hearing they got out of the car and left it running. Next day both were found dead.

Well.  I'm here because I too need a way to disable this "feature".  I traded in my 2018 Denali for the 2020 AT4 2500 Duramax.  I use these trucks to haul trained military working dogs to their final locations.  The trailers we transport these dogs in rely on vehicles running to power airflow controls (heat/bringing in fresh air), lighting and water pump.  Today, after thirty minutes of being in a meeting I walk out and my truck is off -- and the dogs have no heat (it's 22 degrees out).  I instantly freak out thinking I made the mistake of shutting the truck off.  (Why would I ever assume the truck turns off on it's own?). So I restart the truck, we begin the process of unloading dogs, as we are the truck shuts off again.  Our trucks (companies) sometimes run for hours - this is just nature of the business.  The fact we can not disable this feature is an issue.  I have already spoken with the dealership to return the vehicle as I have less than 100 miles on it.  The truck does not work for me because of this one simple "feature". Yes, I'm sure there are work arounds as some of you posted in here -- "restart the truck when it goes off".  This does not scale.  I'm in disbelief that they did not provide an option to turn this off..... so there is no fix ... this is confirmed... as they are taking my truck back because of it.

Did you lock it and restart with the remote? 

or use and extra key in ignition so the doors could be locked?

or leave it unlocked with key in it? 

 

I don't know how long they with a key in, but it sounds like maybe you need one with the PTO option.  (doesn't look like it can be added to upper level trims)

 

There is info about PTO and it's modes modes in the Duramax supplement. Quick look suggests it can be set up to run for something like 64 hours (DPF probably wouldn't permit that long .....)

 

Does the truck have the High Idle (Fast Idle) option (UF3)?

Anybody know if they will idle longer using the high idle option?

I'm shocked that they included this "feature" on the heavy duty diesels. Aside from the fact that a diesel burns essentially no fuel at idle, what are the guys up north going to do all winter?

Totally ridiculous. I wish I never would’ve bought the truck. if I leave a vehicle running I expected to be running when I come back to it. it absolutely makes no sense to have 110 outlet in the truck as well if power shuts off after two hours. There is no logic for this feature in a work vehicle. Trucks are not grocery getter’s.

Modern day diesels are NOT the diesels of yesterday. No longer can you idle them all day without ill effects. These new ones get loaded with soot which causes an avalanche of problems.

 

BTW, 2017 and newer fords (at least the diesel model) do this too.
