2017 GMC Sierra CC Z71 Larger Tired w/ Leveling Kit

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys, I have been reading this forum for awhile and seen different answers. But I got a 2.5” Motofab top and bottom mount leveling kit (similar to RC 2.5”) installed on my 2017 GMC Sierra CC Z71 and I’m interested in larger tires and keeping my stock rims. I have read that larger tires might come in contact with the UCA. I’m interested in the Ridge Grappler or the Wildpeaks AT3w. I am wondering what size tires will fit with no rubbing or no contact with the UCA. Please inform.

Possibly looking at the following sizes:

275/60R20

275/65R20

285/60R20

285/55R20

295/55R20

305/55R20

Just looking for the most bang for my buck.

Thanks in advance.

I love 305 but on a factory rim that is to much tire. You.need to look at the tire spec and see the approved rim size for it. Then you will.know how over hang you will have. As different manufacturers run way different in size.

Well I have the 2.25 level and run 275/60 R20 with no rub. Rides smooth and don’t look bad.

It probably depends on what control arms you have. I had 1.5" level with the stamped control arms and they rubbed with 275/60R20. It was very minimal at full lock.

Yeah it is hard to say I have rubbing on the 90* bends of the front sway bar from full lock turning. But I have 295/35/24, that's a 10" wide rim. Also didn't rub at factory height.

I did the 2.25” and rubbed with new 275/60/20 KO2’s on my stock 20’s. Bought new wheels with a +1 offset and fixed it. Now I’m lifted with a 4.5” CST lift with 34” Nitto Ridge Grapplers giving more smiles per miles :)

Btw, if those are the factory chrome honeycomb wheels, you’ll get premium price if selling them out right and easily buy wheels of your choice

I’m am considering the Ridge Grapplers. How do you like them, would you recommend?

Also,  it seems the rubbing issue is just different on any 17-18 Sierra. Would a .25” or 0.5” spacer fix the rubbing issue? I need to get under my truck and check the distance I have now between the tire/rim and UCA.

I have a 2016 GMC All Terrain (same 20" wheels but not chrome) I have the 2.5" Motofab spacer up front. I'm running BFG KO2's 275/60/20 It has a slight rub at full lock, it's barely rubbing the paint off of the UCA. It's not a problem for me, but I wouldn't want to run anything wider with the current setup. I have a crew cab with the standard box which can be challenging to maneuver in tight parking lots already, and wouldn't want to limit the steering. You can fix it with wheel spacers or different offset wheels, but you can also cause rubbing on the bumper or back of wheel well. Good luck with your setup and let us know what you come up with.  image.png.7634b2384670abea9bc94358f9eb5be0.pngimage.png.5de3ad26631c3daf628343d961e4628f.png

Well, some people don’t care if it rubs and for me I do care cause I don’t want just the look and any rubbing means it doesn’t fit. If you’re gonna do something then do something right the first time. Do not like spacers and are very controversial especially being that thin.

I learned the hard way on my own, definitely recommend doing it right by either doing a badass CST 4.5” lift (kit: $1600) which allows you to still keep your original wheels and tires up to 35” as well as stock track width and turning radius and stock geometry which leveling doesn’t offer or get new wheels in order to have the perfect fit. It’s completely up to you but when you figure in all your expenses down the road, could’ve done a CST lift which is second to none (no extra expenses) and gives you a stock ride with only 2” taller than your level would give.

Yeah I’m with you. I care if it rubs or not. I would like a larger tire or just more of an aggressive tire. I am just going to have to get the tire store to try out different sizes.

But your trucks looks real good man!

I’m leaning towards the Ridge Grapplers [emoji2957]

Thanks. If you’re wanting a more aggressive tire but something more on the AT side I’d highly recommend Toyo Open Country AT2 with excellent tread life warranty and a 275/60/20 is only 44 lbs.

https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/toyo-tire-open-country-a-t-ii/p/30732

Wildpeak 275/60/20 is cheaper and only 48lbs

https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/falken-wildpeak-a-t3w/p/26822

Nitto Ridge Grapplers 275/60/20 weigh 48 lbs

https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/nitto-ridge-grappler/p/37306

The Toyo AT2’s give excellent reliability as do the Nittos and Toyo RT’s but both the Ridge Grapplers and the Toyo RT’s are hybrid tires which make them good in about everything.

If you’re looking for All Terrain (AT) I’d stick with Toyo AT2’s
