6.2L Yes or No

I tow, so I wanted the 6.2 and the Max Trailering package.  Otherwise, I would have just kept on driving my 2016 with the 5.3.  If I ever stop towing, I'll go back to the 5.3.  I don't see any point in getting the 6.2 just for the sake of having a bigger engine with more power.  The 5.3 or even the 2.7 is more than adequate for every day driving that doesn't involve any towing.

Goose, getting 23 mpg on the highway with my 6.2 Sierra Denali. 10speed trans and 420 hp. Great truck

I’ve got an 18 CC, Z71 6.2, 8 speed, 4.5”-5” lifted with 33” KO2’s and getting 23mpg’s at 65mph

Oh man...I went through the same struggles when ordering my 2020 LTZ. I ended up with the 5.3, and coming from a 2008 5.3 Z71 Tahoe...it feels fantastic. I am extremely pleased with the current gen 5.3...and my 8 speed has been good too...I was already at the very tip-top of my budget, so the additional price of the 6.2 plus the slight increase for premium fuel made me stick to the 5.3...But deep down inside, I still wish I would have gotten the 6.2. But, I am still very happy with my 5.3.

Edit: Around here, the average premium difference is about $.50-$.60...so I figured average fill up would be about $10 more...

Oh man...I went through the same struggles when ordering my 2020 LTZ. I ended up with the 5.3, and coming from a 2008 5.3 Z71 Tahoe...it feels like fantastic. I am extremely pleased with the current gen 5.3...and my 8 speed has been good too...BUTTTTT if the 6.2 didn’t recommend/require premium fuel, I probably would have gotten the 6.2. I plan on keeping my truck for a while, so I was trying to minimize cost of ownership.

You’d be surprised at just much more efficient the 6.2 really is over the 5.3 and especially the V6.

GM just repurchased my 2019 RST with the 5.3 V8 w/ 8 speed for transmission issues (only 7500 miles on it). Just picked up the 2020 RST 6.2L w/ 10 speed and so far the truck drives much better.  The engine feels way more peppy and makes the truck feel much more responsive and enjoyable to drive. I'd say if you can swing it, go for it.  IMO, it's worth the grin it puts on my face.

I'm getting about the same if not better fuel efficiency from the 6.2 as well. Think they're only rated at a 1mpg difference but i'm not in the higher RPM's as much w/ the 6.2 since there's a ton of low end torque.

I needed to replace my '06 Suburban 2500 (6.0L/4L80).  I rented an almost-new Avis 2019 Yukon XL SLT with the 5.3/8sp for a week and put over 1500 miles on it.  I found it generally adequate while loaded up and it towed a 21' SeaSwirl without too much effort. However, I do believe that my old 6.0L Suburban was a better tow/hauler than that truck and when I started shopping for the replacement truck, I decided to find a machine with the 6.2/10sp.

I picked up a brandy-new, leftover 2019 Yukon XL Denali (6.2L/10sp) in December, 2019. It delivers smooth, almost effortless power in any situation and rarely revs over 2000RPM from 0-70mph unless you are getting on it.

The big surprise was the gas mileage: it's excellent for a vehicle this size, 19mpg around town and 24-26mpg hwy. I roll her nice and easy... slow, easy starts and steady as she goes.

I didn't need to put premium in my Suburban 6.0L, but it also only got 12/18mpg... Reg gas in New England is ~$2.53 and prem is ~$2.99:

        - 500 miles in the Suburban at avg 15.5mpg costs $81 for regular

        - 500 miles in the Yukon at avg 22mpg costs $68 for premium

so I did not let that affect my decision.

I got it with 4 miles on it and it now has just over 3000 miles on it... love this truck.

I got my 2020 TB w/ the 6.2 5 days ago.  There is no decision to make.  6.2 w/ 10 speed hands down.  I had a Ram 1500 with the 5.7 and a Tundra with the 5.7 as my last 2 trucks (yes I left GM for 6 years) and the power difference is extremely noticeable.

I have my MPG set to best 25 miles right now and so far my best is 18.7.  300 miles on the truck and the first tank was mostly 87 octane.  I expect it will only get better as it gets broken in, gets the tonneau cover installed and with premium gas.

If this wasn't the trailboss I would expect an even better increase (lift and duratracs don't help MPG).

Only splurge for it if your in the market for a top trim truck, unless you can get them in LT's and SLE's now for 2020. If you can afford it easily without worrying about your finances, you would be missing out on a bit if you when with the 5.3L After owning one you wont want to buy a 5.3L again, no knocking the L83 is great, its just laws of horsepower and smiles per gallon. It's awesome being able to pull out and pass someone safely. You will find your often on the brakes before you even get by them. For an extra $8 per fill up I wouldn't trade it for anything. Now if only we could have the LT4 engine as an option.

I have owned 4 6.2 trucks with a couple 5.3s in the mix. 5.3 was great and i was very happy with it but i am that much happier with the 6.2. I might be spending an extra $25-$35 a month on gas but i think that is worth the enjoyment and capabilities.

Thanks for the reply, I must clarify i'm 55 years old and once I get a truck she's my jewel. But as for add ons for power that's outta my realm....just sayin'. Here in Canada 10-12 cents more a liter for gas.....But I won't be buying new trucks for long....lol Had 5.3 L all my other trucks over the years and no issues

I have the 4.3 and LOVE IT. Spoiler alert. I don't tow anything. I don't haul anything. I'm 66 and I just enjoy driving it to the tune of about 30K miles a year. It's quick enough and powerful enough for anything I've ever asked it to do. Fact is, I've never needed all the power it does have but I have used it a time or two. :) Just for fun. What I haven't done is spend at the pump. I know none of this matters to 90% of those that read this but....there it is.

The way I see it you’re already into the LTZ trim and for an extra $2500 you’ll more than make up for that in resale alone!

Had they offered the 6.2 in the lower trims I would’ve probably gone for it myself.

I don’t need all the fancy stuff that comes in the higher trim trucks, because at the end of the day my truck spends 90% of its time as a work truck where I’m jumping into with my grubby work clothes, muddy boots and loading lumber.

My 2019 Sierra Elevation didn’t have it as an option and I’m ok with my 5.3/8 speed combo.

When I hook up my 24’ TT this summer perhaps I won’t be ripping it up the hills but I’m ok with that!

I love the 6.2 and can afford but its all in what your wallet can afford. Having said that if the 5.3 had some more guts , i think it would be even more popular and would re think if you really needed the 6.2.  Yes its still plenty adequate , so not down playing the 355-383 numbers just saying its the least power/TQ of all the V8 5 liters now on market.

Nissan, Ford, Ram, , even the Tundra V8's have more power.

Like say 25 more hp and 25 more TQ .

I'm still a little disappointed that Gm hasent touched their 5.3 and 6.2 going on 7-8 years now. By touched i mean the numbers and not the DFM stuff.
