2018 Sierra - question before pulling the trigger

I have stumbled across a deal on a left over 18 SLT 2wd crew cab 5.3 with 6 speed that I cannot pass up. I've seen several threads regarding the 8 speed but not much on the 6 speed, however when browsing TrueDelta I see several complaints on the 6 as well. Am I relatively safe going with 6 speed? Also, is not having AC vents in the rear that noticeable during the hot summer months?

6 speeds are programmable versus the 8 speeds. Both are great but 8 speed is better at saving on the mpg’s.

Not having rear vents for AC is one of my biggest complaints. Riding back there is much less comfortable compared to my Suburban...except the leg room which is awesome. I like my 8speed and got use to it's querks.

Having had both transmissions, I liked the 6 speed better, mostly because of the 3.42 gears. Have you had a chance to drive it?

Yes, the 6 seemed fine however it was only a 20 min drive. The truck I drove last week has been sold but they have another exact match in stock. Now I'm worried about getting a shaker. Haha

This is my 3rd one of this body style, have never experienced the "shaking" others have mentioned. Being a Z71, its rides rough compared to my wives Tahoe, but overall a nice smooth ride. I would not worry about the things that could happen, just go with your gut feeling and buy it.

I have the 8 speed with max tow package and 3:42 gears.

Wow, what a great towing and "get up and go" transmission!

The 6 speed is a great transmission as well.

Coming from a 1997 4l60e, the gear spacing on the 6 and 8 speed is a huge step forward.

The 4l60e still has the newer transmissions beat on smoothness of shifts. My 8 speed and my friends 6 speed occasionally get confused and clunk when off the gas and upshifting or coasting to a stop light.

I can deal with that for the trade off of great gear spacing and superior acceleration.

I will always buy a 4WD. I live were we do get some snow.

I always buy 4WD trucks and SUV. Get a 5500 lb truck in some sand or in a ditch off road and you will need the 4WD.

Resale is always better with a 4WD.

Of course it's up to you to decide what you want to buy.

Post some pics if you pull the trigger!

I had a 15 Sierra 5.3 with the 6 speed, and I really never could warm up to it. I had come from an 08 Silverado 5.3 with the 4 speed, and I just felt it was a better overall package. Fast forward to last month and I now have an 18 Sierra 6.2 with the 8-speed, and I couldn't be happier. The 8-speed is smooth, and I just find it more user friendly. Part of that may be the 6.2.

What is the exact deal. I've seen folks claim this and the deal ends up not being all that great.

18 slt crew, 2wd, 5.3, premium package - 33,800 +ttl.

What's the MSRP?

I've had a 2016 Silverado with 5.3 and 6speed and had good luck with it.  I just picked up a leftover 18 Silverado, upgrade in trim but still with the same engine/tranny combo.  I'll probably look at a leftover 2021 in a couple years with the 6.2 and 8/10 speed with hopefully much improved transmissions by then.

To be honest, after reading the shaking thread with almost 1000 pages I'm having second thoughts.

I have the 6 spd with 3.42. I have never felt the dreaded shake.

Before you buy, just make sure to test drive up to 75 mph+ (whatever your typical freeway speed is)

If you don't feel any shakes, you're good to go.

that's a pretty good price!
