Silverado SS 20's

Recommended Posts

I just got some SS 20's. I dont think Im gonna drop the front of the truck. Just the rear 2". I want to go with the 275/55/20 Goodyear LS. Price is somewhat an issue. Thus, why I chose the Eagle LS for now. For those who have shoved a 275/55/20 under a stock height 2wd Silverado, how well do they fit?? Anyone think I will have to resort to a 275/45/20? I did a bit of measuring and calculating and from what I can tell the 275/55 will fit. Barely. Stock tire height is 30.6". 275/55/20 is 31.9". 275/45/20 is 29.74". So in reality and from the numbers the tire calculator came up with, the 275/55 is only 1.3" taller than stock. Which would be roughly .65" taller on each side of the tire right?? I think I could fit anything under 32.2" in my wheel well. Please somebody smart help me out!! :chevy:

32" tall seems pretty big for a 2wd. They'd probably fit, but imo you'd end up looking like a 4x4. Why not go for a 265/50R20 = 30.4"? It's almost identical to your stock tire height, and since you said that you're on a budget, Goodyear sells their Eagle RSA in that size.

Plus you could still lower it 2/4 and not rub :chevy:

My 02 is 2wd and sitting at stock height. Currently I'm running 265/75/16's without any problems at all. My tires measure out at 31.65" in height and 10.43" in width. As you already noted, the 275/55/20's measure out at 31.9" in height, and then 10.83" in width.

Based on the fact I'm not rubbing at all, I think I would give the 275/55/20's a shot and see if they work for you. If you find the right shop, they may even mount the fronts and let you take it for a spin to see if it rubs or what not, and then if there is a problem go with the next size smaller.

But I like the idea of the fat tire and slighly higher sidewall. It might keep you from trashing a tire if going over a speedbump too fast. :uhoh:

on my 03 I went with 285/50/20's in the rear on a 4" rear drop & 275/45/20's in the front with a 2" drop... on a 20x8.5's wheels...

sits very street rod like with a little rake towards the front...
