2014 4.3 2 wheel drive regular cab

Recommended Posts

I have a 2014 4.3 2 wheel drive Silverado and I have a noise coming from somewhere on the truck. I can’t figure out if it’s the engine, the transmission or the rear end. It only happens under light acceleration between 30-60 mph. I loose power when it happens too. I took it to the dealer and ofcourse they couldn’t replicate the sound. But it sounds like Chewbacca. Anybody know what this is?

You sure its not just the motor dropping into 4cylinder mode ? They will all automatically do that to save fuel and it will kind of sound like a helicopter but it can easily be disabled. You can toggle through the screen on your dash that says V6 and see if it changes to V4 while you have the issue.Thats the first thing I think everyone disables in these trucks

I assume you still have powertrain warranty so I'd return to the dealer and offer to go with the tech for a test drive.   Your truck should not sound like Chewbacca or a helicopter.   The AFM works seamlessly in a properly functioning setup.  It is very common for an initial diagnosis to come back as, "can not replicate".  This does not mean the problem doesn't exist but you may need to push a little harder!

You check it the exact same way I just mentioned on the work truck as well. There is a pin in your cluster you twist to toggle onto the screen that says " V6 ".You will see that change to V4 when you are driving and the cylinder deactivation is doing its thing which is what I think you maybe experiencing.

No, this only became a thing on the 2016+. I have a 15 and I hate that I can't see how many cylinders are firing. I recently had a similar noise at low RPMs but while idling or low speeds. When I took it to the dealership they said it was an exhaust leak. I'm not sure if it fixed the issue though.
